Well if you asked the pagans gunpowder is magic. It all depends on the point of view.
>>153506071
Btw Turks in this series not even Muslim, Even Abrahamic religions do not exists (though its symbolism do).
Instead of making them Tengriist, author thought it would be good idea to make them worship water since Turks literally built fountains and drinking taps everywhere that they conquered
Pic related, you can find fountains like these in every part of the former Ottoman Empire
>>153506560
Ottoman Fountain in Greece
>>153504758
Are we dealing with Fujoshi case?
>>153506560
The reason these fountains existed though was because for one thing they were a hold over from the Roman empire and its culture of bath houses which also mixed well with Islamic desires to maintain purity through constant ablution. When you're going on your busy day and suddenly the call to prayer comes, you need to perform your ritual cleansing before you start praying.
>>153506382
seems so, in spin-off gunpowder is more of a magical stuff rather than being a normal thing
>>153507325
Also, one stereotype of the muslim chroniclers during the Crusades was that the Franks (which basically was just a catchword for all Western Europeans to them) was that they were smelly because they didn't bathe. And Europeans considered Jews and Muslims as being too attentive to bathing and washing like the Pharisees in the gospels.

Well Turkic and Islamic inspired settings are untapped reserves in Anime/Manga, besides seems japs slowly losing interest on European themed fantasy lores
>>153510630
Islamic and Middle Eastern inspired settings have been more prominent in manga than in animation for some time, especially in the shoujo and yaoi area.
On a scale from 1-10, how homo is this?

The one non-fujobait one I read that wasn't another love story about a Mary Sue and her Arab prince in a shining headdress was Kazan.
Kinda cool. It also has a bit of a blurb on the politics of tribal nomadism, since the MC's fatheris the leader of a tribe of warrior nomads who wants, after his son is born, to have his tribe become agriculturalists so his son can have a more secure future

>>153511496
I had the first two volumes of this, don't really remember much about it except the scene where Kazan got shot with the arrow and fell back on it to get it out.
If anyone is interested in reading something else from this period that was released in America by the same (now dead) publisher, check out Sarai. I don't know for sure if there are any scans floating around, I only just recently bought the entire collection off of Ebay and phew what a ride.
My favorite arc was the Middle Eastern one for obvious reasons.

>>153512711
It's hard to make a distinction because Central Asia and the ME share a lot of the same cultural elements
Holy shit, my people! This has been a favorite for years. I'm hoping Suleyman gets a lot of focus in the anime because he's been shafted for awhile now. No color artwork of him except for the one when the artist was still working out their style, it's a crime.
>>153497492
I'm thinking that Frantz might have been a sacrificial distraction and that an army is now marching on the Turkish capital, way too far ahead to be stopped. The most recent translated chapter revealed that Frantz was a part of the anti-war faction, so he was probably intended to be killed.
>>153512865
He seen some shit alright!
All commanders got killed except him during the curbstomp that was happened, yet the guy still rides for valhalla
Absolute Madman!
>>153506650
No, none of the main characters are homo. Mahmut has beautiful hair but he's not particularly feminine; his two main companions aren't fujobait. There are also plenty of strong and beautiful women.
>>153512735
Indeed, if memory serves they were publishing some really unconventional stuff for the time. Like, I remember Sorcerer Hunters and Sarai being on the same shelves, plus Bastard!! was floating around too, so it wasn't even the nudity. I think Sarai's subject matter just hit on some pretty heavy subjects that you didn't - and don't see addressed all that often, even today. As an example, the whole slavery thing in the Middle Eastern arc and the xenophobic implications of the yeti tribe who sexually abused that psychic girl who was blind and thus incapable of even realizing she was different from them. Like I said, I don't remember a lot about Kazan but I think it was also quite different from everything else I was reading back then. Which was, what? 1999? 2001? I was still in grade school either way.
Also I'm wondering if Sarai is worth any money. I didn't pay an arm and a leg for the collection like I'd thought I would but it DID take me many years to find a complete set and with ComicsOne defunct I'm just not sure if I got a great deal or if I overpaid for them.
>>153513326
Sarai should be on some read manga website. I know you can read all of Kazan on the usual sites
>>153513287
This, only confirmed homo character is Sultan Balaban
So fujoshits are going to ruin these threads. Oh well the adaption will be underwhelming anyway.
>>153511398
What? I don't see that at all, all of the recent chapters have been about the war. Mahmut and Zaganos can't even stand each other. I'd give it a 3, and most of that is from the creepy tiger king.
>>153513495
it will be if they do 1 cour
>>153513495
I really doubt they will. This series doesn't seem to inspire them, if the void of artwork is anything to go by. But I do agree that the adaptation will probably flop; the series can't exactly be condensed and expect to have the same impact, and I really doubt MAPPA's ability to compare to the manga's art style.
>>153513495

I don't know who that lady is, but she's right.
The Turks are one of the strangest, most watered down modern tribes today. Today they're like Mongolgreekarabhebrewalbainians with the occasional Cossack dicking here and there.
You cannot mix around with the neighbors, then piggyback an already settled region and expect to be relevant five generations later. You gotta stay on your own chariot, otherwise you will be unrecognizable and dead. Even India, that clusterfuck, has more defined cultures and racial lines.
>>153514047
MAPPA know that they gonna flop it up, so they hired the solid crew for the job in order to ease the chances to 50/50
>>153514178
Well, Ottoman culture is still relevant in their former territories such as Balkans
However balkanites hates Turks to the core (except bosnia and albania) even they dont like each other
I say Ottomans had a good run when in terms of culture, but republicanism made them even more watered down that they turned into random generic country
>>153513163
Oh dang, that's Frantz isn't it? I meant to reference Adam. It's tragic that the people on both sides who were most sympathetic to each other were forced to fight, but it makes sense. Pic related - I can't say anything nice about Zaganos, because he's a bastard.
>>153514103

>>153514915
MAPPA literally copied Mahmut's design for Yurio
Why do you think they made Mahmut more manlier in the anime?
>>153514777
Fear not, Sense Scans is only 10 chapters behind (89/99)! They're doing an awesome job. I've heard rumors that the manga is ending soonish, though.

>Mahmut and Zaganos can't even stand each other
Not that anon, and I agree there's nothing fujobait about this, but unless something happened in the untranslated chapters, I wouldnt say they cant stand each other. Especially after Zaganos admitted Mahmut is necessary to end the war. I'd say they respect each other, but differ in methods and end goals.
Then again, latest chapter had Zaganos doing a 180 on his treatment of Mahmut after the whole "you'll never be like me" so I dont know if the author changed her mind and decided to go for animosity between them afterall or if Zaganos has a secret reason for being such ablatant dick. The fact that Mahmut wasnt whining about it is suspicious.
>>153515293
That's a pity. The politics are interesting so i was hoping to see the aftemath of the war
>>153515293
Wonder whats author has been planning for 100th chapter

Politics and muskets and 2 of my favourite things in fantasy.
What are the various countries supossed to represent? 'Good' turkroaches vs 'bad' crusaders or something?
>>153516136
I suspect that Zaganos still views Mahmut the way that he always has - a convenient tool. He recognizes Mahmut's strengths, but since he plays the long game he's more worried about how Mahmut will be a threat to his influence after their mutual enemies are gone. I think he's going to keep searching for opportunities to minimize and possibly eliminate him.
Rather than suspicious, it was impressive that Mahmut did not react to the open dissing; he's matured quite a bit.
>>153517366
I always interpreted pic related as saying that Zaganos had, in fact, one shred of human decency left and used people he knew would be fine with dying.
Although that was then. Maybe now, so close to his goal, Zaganos might be losing any of that.
Still, my issue with Zaganos pushing Mahmut and his entourage away isnt that it's political: it makes sense for him to keep them where they cant gain influence. I'm more bothered by how clear he goes about it. I thought it would be better politically to be subtle about his intentions of keeping them from prestige.
>>153517008
Unfortunately muskets have only made a short cameo so far, but the politics aspect is handled extremely well.
The war is not based on religion at all, but it is a scenario of a western empire trying to expand into the middle east during a golden age. None of the entities are straight analogs but there is a depiction of Venice, Russia, and more. I think it's refreshing that it's not an ideological conflict, but a practical one. Countries get dragged onto sides of the conflict not because one side is right, but because of resources, interests, or an army capturing it by the balls and squeezing.
>>153517366
>I suspect that Zaganos still views Mahmut the way that he always has - a convenient tool
I though the point of the end of chapter 87 was that they actually respected one another
>>153517743
That's possible, but the following page is ambiguous. He looks surprised by what Mahmut says, and not exactly one of 'Oh no I've been found out as a nice guy'. Mahmut was also merely repeating the words of what the Buchak sultan said previously about good leaders; at this point he seems to still have faith in Zaganos's decency.
Prestige and politics are completely intertwined here; if Mahmut doesn't have much of an impact on the rest of the war, he won't have much influence when they go back to the Diwan. Zaganos knows that Mahmut and his allies would never support a Turkish empire.
>>153517954
87 did end on a good note, didn't it? But then 89 comes and tears it all down. On one hand you could give Zaganos the benefit of the doubt and say that the two are acting out some strategy, but there's no enemy around to fool.
They clearly respect each other militarily, but their relationship is much more complicated.
>>153518623
I actually didvthink that was simpñy shock thar Mahmut had matured enough to understandvwhat hisvrole had been, accept it calmly and then understand Zaganos to that point instead of simply lashing out childishly like he'd have done before.
Is Zaganos alreally after a turkish empire centered around him? Most speculate that baded on his war tendencies but they dont know he has a personal interest in that. In fact, they only acquired Cielo because Mahmut decreed it.
>>153516146
Somehow I didn't see, could you post it?
>>153518901
Since I enjoy machinations and twists over straightforward fights in this manga, I want to hope there's some hidden agenda to it.
>>153519060
Forgot to add: one reason I could see Zaganos doing this is so that Mahmut has more leeway to slip away from the army. Zaganos could use him by sending him out to do things in secret without the rest of the army being aware. This way Zaganos avoids Mahmut getting battle prestiege and still makes use of him.
>>153518906
I hadn't thought of it that way, I'll definitely have to consider that. Zaganos definitely acted in a way that best served their country. But he probably didn't care about whether Mahmut was 'happy' about doing it.
As much as I dislike him, Zaganos isn't egotistical enough to want an empire centered on himself. He seems loyal to the Diwan. But he does seem to believe that his way of thinking is the right way to go, and is doing all he can to secure influence over the Diwan.
>>153519196
Excellent theory! This could really work, especially since Mahmut operates better as a dark horse than in open battle.
>>153506071Inshallah
