Is there any way a thread about 70s and 80s Anime won't get eaten within minutes on /a/?
What are some anime and manga from that era that you guys enjoy?
I'm currently watching Xabungle, part of my Tomino binge. It's pretty cool especially after coming the cathartic journey that was Victory Gundam.
I like the Wild West setting it has and how it's basically a longer King Gainer in tone.

>90% of /a/ only knows Getter from shitposters talking about TTGL
>>153483813
Sounds right. Most old shows are only mentioned as direct comparisons to modern ones to prove a point.
Watching the tv version of Patlabor at the moment. Noa is too fucking cute.
>>153483951
>Noa is too fucking cute.
This guy gets it.
>>153483412
Going through Lupin Part 2 slowly. The quality is all over the place, but when its good, its pretty damn good.
>>153483807
I love you anon.
I like 80s Gainax.
Gunbuster, Honneamise and Appleseed are terrific.
Some of the best anime of all time were from the 80s.
People still talk about Rose of Versailles and LOGH all the time, obviously.
I think Votoms is pretty good.
>>153483951
>>153484061
I think I watched one or two episodes of Patlabor at a convention many years ago. Literally the only thing I can remember about it is that Noa was, indeed, too fucking cute.
>>153483951
>Noa is too fucking cute.
My nigga of excellent taste
>>153483412
>What are some anime and manga from that era that you guys enjoy?
Bubblegum Crisis
Goku Midnight Eye (I like the 2000 dub better than the original Japanese)
I will watch anything even remotely cyberpunky.
>>153487444
Give it a watch, both the OVA and the series are great. TV gets wacky, but goes back into serious mode for the arcs that require it, with some seriously good animation too.
And then there's the films.
Why the fuck is old anime so repetitive
Going through City Hunter right now, it's ALL THE SAME SHIT HOLY FUCK
>What are some anime and manga from that era that you guys enjoy?
I wish I had the patience to delve into some older manga, but all of the Rumiko stuff from the 80s is gold, there's Gall Force, Dirty Pair, Megazone 23, Area 88, and too many others to think of at any one time.
Maybe a /ra/ retro anime board wouldn't be so bad, a better way to find really old stuff that people care about, like Onii-sama e... or any of that jousei stuff from the late 70s.
Manga is truly vast. Anime almost as much.
>>153488238
Is this new meme?
Also, I chuckled.
Unpopular opinion coming through, Patlabor 3 is the best Patlabor movie. Campy space alien plot is best plot, only problem with the movie is Nao is barely in it.

80s was the decade for anime to come into its own. You could lump the 60s and 70s is mostly:
shows for kids
mecha anime
sports anime
shoujo anime
And Lupin III.
You know, I actually kinda prefer Orguss to Macross. I'd want another Orguss installment sometime instead of the Umpteenth Macross.
>>153488293
They're all detective movies, and three is excellent, just not exactly what people wanted from Patlabor. Maybe it would have worked better as an arc in a TV series, or just a spinoff like AD Police?
>>153485056
Honneamise and Dirty Pair: Project EDEN turn 30 pretty soon.
>>153483412
>Is there any way a thread about 70s and 80s Anime won't get eaten within minutes on /a/?
Make a well thought out OP that incites discussion, not OMG DAE AYDEEEEEEES
>>153488391
The TV series is soooo different from the movies so I really don't know. The TV series and OVA series are super light hearted and pretty much just kids shows(not saying that like its a bad thing), while the movies are super serious, play things straight and take a somewhat realistic approach. They probably would have had to change the story and the tone to make it work in the TV series.
>>153488447
The OVA and TV series got extremely heavy at times, they just knew when to break that tension with levity, or have entire episodes devoted to ghost stories at onsens. Any Patlabor is good Patlabor.

It's biased, but I love retro rec threads. There's an elitist pleasure in giving out lists of names for older anime that always need to be seen more, especially when Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne are considered ancient these days.
And then there's the hope that something I wasn't aware of is posted, or it gets posted enough times I decide to finally give it a shot after years of putting it off. Like how many people did that with LoGH or Urusei Yatsura?
Did anyone else see Donatello in OP's image before scrolling down?
>>153488715
>It's biased, but I love retro rec threads.
>elitist pleasure
So we have tripfaggotry, recommendations, and misplaced egotism all in one post. Fantastic.
There was a time when anime didn't shy away from /ss/
>>153488837
There's a whole show about a shota getting loved on by a thick onee-san, and only 7 episodes were ever subbed.
>>153488822
Nostalgiafags have a bizarre persecution complex despite the fact it's their own fault every single time.
>>153488883
There's no fault, there's just such a rush of anime being produced anything not new is suddenly forgotten. You could have a retro thread from the early 2000s, and it would be mostly new to people.
>>153488917
It really wouldn't.
>>153488822
Consider: The pleasure from giving out recommendations is less elitist than the pleasure from refusing to give out recommendations.
>>153488935
Maybe not here.
>>153488856

Fist of the North Star is GOAT
>>153488975
The Kabocha Wine. It's very rooted in the art of the time, but the show manages to be comfy. Hard to really get into much discussion on it other than begging to see more, it's 95 episodes long, so it's gotta cover all of the typical anime romance bases.
>>153488958
Nowhere but here is even relevant.
>You could have a retro thread from the early 2000s
>I-I was talking about making a thread somewhere else
Great recovery.
>>153489037
I thought he's just short.
>>153489206
He fits the bills.
Dominion/Dominion Tank Police was good shit. And it had kemonomimi twins doing sexy dances. And tanks. You can't go wrong with too many tanks or kemonomimi girls doing sexy dances.
>>153489247
Shirow doing what he's always done.
>>153483412
The newfag ESLfags that are raping the board don't watch old anime because they can't look up inaccurate gook and chink spoilers on animesuki and then shitpost about secondaries in threads, so there aren't many people here who actually watch old anime.

Ahh dear Anapuma and Unipuma. The boners you gave me as a young lad were far too many to count.
Isn't it weird how the best OP and best ED were both in the same franchise?
>>153488428
>Make a well thought out OP that incites discussion
You're not very bright, are you?
You apparently haven't realized that most threads on this board are waifu or masturbation fantasy threads.
