The way you make such a strategy work is by a. Never acknowledging the why and b. Making sure the audience isn't filling in the gaps for a character that needs to be relatable. Star wars not explaining how lightsabers work is fine because they're inanimate objects used as a supplement for a character.

Crabman is instead forcing us to repeatingly question why a character acts the way they do, and when he answers he only makes more questions or makes the character seem stupid or ret-conned or fake or whatever.

I've always been under the assumption that one leads into the other and they are linked.
She is a spider and therefore prone to catching and webbing things up naturally. IE: Webbing up Kiira BEFORE(italics, not yelling) ever having met any humans to have bad experiences with. Presumably just like Miia she was normal enough girl, who wanted to see new things and meet new people, and maybe find love. (This being the type of series that it is.)
Then with the fear of being seen as monstrous because of her spider body, just like Miia and any other 'less friendly' species, she ends up with a family that, unlike Darling, cannot deal with her form. Rach Emotional Damage #1. At some point Ren is accidentally scratched by Rachnera. This would obviously cause tension within the home, RED#2. It is never mentioned that Rachnera ever webbed the family up at any point. (Or not that I read in 26)
Rachnera is then eventually 'transferred' to the scumbag, sexual deviant the director. While no timetables are given, she at some point learns that she was actually sold like unwanted trash. RED#3. Also while living with the sexual deviant she at some point she become aware of and enjoys bondage, an obvious pairing for her natural instincts and abilities. Why would you reduce the complexity of a character just because you dont like it? Crabman never "retconned anything" he just expanded on rachnee's background which was never actually established. Retconning would imply she had a completely different background which he changed for the sake of a story element.

The way crab chose to handle rachnee is the way he chose to handle her. People who are hurt tend to just be assholes because it makes them feel better about themselves. Thats just human nature. We know Rachnee is affected by caffeine as alcohol, We cant even imagine what kind of differences in physiology exist between a human brain and an arachnee brain. How do you even consider what the act of being "Sold like unwanted garbage" does to an arachnee? For you or I we may react in a certain way, for her it may have been 10 times worse of an experience.

My thinking is that she is both now. She puts forth the outward cockiness, but is withdrawn on the inside. She does want to find her Mr. Perfect, but at this point the bondage is here to stay. Eventually the cockiness would subside as she finds its not needed all the time.
