So they argue and separate, and without any comfort from the guy the girl does what she knows best to cheer herself up: play eroge.
Then she plays this game with a character that resembles her BF, which she liked, and this character which so she likes too, so it's all kinda fun and melanchonic somehow.
But by playing more and more she realizes that they're not actually the same: while the guy of the eroge is a somewhat foolish and honest dude with a heart of gold which is exactly the type she likes and what liked in her BF she comes to realizing that Suminoe keeps things hidden from her, never really opened up, never really thought of her mindset or tried any empathy with her position and just does what she wants with everyone.

That's why she's so serious later on because she realized that the two guys (2D with the qualities she likes and supposed same BF) are actually very different.

So the side characters, Cake, pissgirl and loli are all just plot points he wants to cycle through to eventually lead up to kissxsis ending where Keita realizes he wants to be with twins.
What people are complaining about in the thread is instead of blatant fanservice which is what this series is at its core, Ditama is trying to insert hamfisted attempt introspection by the characters in this particular arc.
