Can someone explain the hardon for 90s anime of the past few years?
Is it just people who grew up with them?
Or is it because of shit like future funk that have nothing to do with 90s anime, but use it as an """"aesthetic"""? (I find that stupid as hell)
Either way I'm annoyed by the recent hardon for it. For the record, I watch 90s shows myself so it's not the shows I hate. It's the annoying users.
It's just better.

This image should explain why people (rightfully) have a hardon for 90s anime.
Everyone wants to be part of the shitty 90's kid meme.
I hate the nineties nostalgia. Guess it's cause we couldn't afford a TV and I had no friends so I never got to watch all those shows as a kid.

It has a much more distinct look, more realistically, there is a whole decade of stuff to pull good shit from, so rose colored glasses + a large pool of source material = fawning over a period long passed.
Some of it was pretty great, it was less inclined to try to sell you shit than the current otaku-catering service we call the industry today.
For a time the japanese economy was booming, and people could find the money to take risks with the medium, people weren't so afraid of not being able to sell figs/scales/daki/vhs
It's a distinct period in the history of the medium, and it produced some of the best and most experimental products in the history of animation.

I meant the late 80s into the early 90s
92 was a flop, but some companies were still riding the wave until '95, at least auto manufacturers and electronics manufacturers were

There was pandering for sure, but now it seems like you can't get anything greenlit or backed without a handful of easily merchandised fujobait/otakubait/yuribait/etc. characters to sell.
Can you think of anything that's come out in the last 5 years that didn't have at least a few cute/kawaii(TM) characters?

The 90s was the last decade with good looking anime, where anime was animated pictures rather than the modern style where they seemingly forgot how to make beautiful pictures.
90s anime just looks beautiful, and there is a lot to choose from.
The 90s also has that really unique triangle face character designs, that are very distinct and have lots of charm.
After the 90s, there has been very little anime that looks handdrawn and with nice, painted backgrounds, and the colour were much better before digital

You know they still animate on paper, right? (Before inking and coloring them digitally)
Also, your points are subjective. I think modern anime is beautiful too. I don't see why we have to hate one over the other.
