I don't even like the ED much, but very nice

I love how they had Bakuyasha replace Gintoki in those flashback scenes at the end.

Ok as Gin said the ending of this episode was hype as hell and they did change the opening with bakuyasha so this episode is a 10/10 already.
It did have a few screwups in the Gin vs Pluto fight but I think the pacing was good especially in the part were Pluto tells Gin's next move before he does it. Also playing the ending while they are all fighting was cool as heck so extra points for that.

Shogun Assassination, the arc itself feels cinematic, if you know what I mean, so I think a movie would work perfectly. Completely reanimate most of it and make a great looking version of one of the greatest arcs in the series.

The arc is 8 episodes (longest arc until Shogun Assassination). Removing the openings, some anime-only segments and compressing some of the dragged out parts could shorten it to a more reasonable movie length.

It was a legit character trait that got dropped at some point on the beginning because it was a pain to draw, Gorilla said so in one chapter.
In the beginning there was also a big deal of Gin being addicted to sweets and having problems with his teeth for that reason, not even 100 chapters in all that remained of that were his obsession with strawberry milk and with time even that faded away, right now the last chapter I can remember that character trait was when they go to the funeral of that old man that always catered to Hijikata and him.

Episode 220 (continues from the last two or so minutes of episode 219). If you enjoy episode 231, you should enjoy this.
Episode 239-240 (Scandal Arc). Pushing the limits of what is allowed on Shonen Jump comedy wise. Really funny and can be considered a parody of the harem genre.
227. If you've watched SKET Dance, you'll love this crossover. If not, best to not watch it straight away.
188. This one right here, I really, really, really recommend it. It is more of a drama episode, but it's so damn good, great directing, feels, definitely worth the watch.

I don't read the manga. But even before the latest barrage of serious arcs Gintama was running for years and years on just comedy arcs with the occasional serious arc. I heard Gorilla went full-serious because of declining ratings do he's finishing the series up right now. But that doesn't take away the fact that he kept the series afloat and still funny and relevant for so long. It's not like Reborn which turned to shit after Varia and never recovered. A comedy episode in Gintama from chapter 400 is still as funny as a chapter from around 100, or 200.

Yeah that was an issue in the early episodes, especially the first 25 episodes. Then they started putting two different stories in the same episode, which worked much better.

Sacchan's introduction episode is also very different from her introduction chapter in the manga, because of the padding. She never really gets abused by Gintoki in the manga chapter and it's only at the very end we see her fall for him. The anime decided to introduce her masochism early.
