i remember at the beginning naruto was hated and an outcast who was fighting and scraping for every inch of respect he could manage

and then it turns out he's the son of everyone's favorite hokage and the bloodline that kept the village safe by keeping foxy godzilla locked up, who has access to two major ninja progenitor's bag of genetic tricks, the one true ultimate hero ninja jesus savior amen

I honestly can't think of any story that flipped it's original premise quite so hard. "Remember kids, hard work and doing the right thing will win the respect of your peers--actually yknow what, never mind, you're basically worthless unless you were born with an entire silver dining set in your mouth"

It kind of sucks that the story also dissolves into "It was fated to happen, it's your destiny" stuff. The whole point of one of the fights in the early series was defying fate.
