To be fair considering none of us went to school in Japan there is the possibility that this hits harder to the Japanese then it does to us. It's easy to paint this all as silly and over the top and it probably is but I do think there is in fact an oppressive culture within Japanese high schools so who knows how on the nose this may or may not be.
