No, he's right. A major point of his character is he never actually saved anyone before shirou. He just keeps adding to his bodycount while hoping it'll all be worth it one day. Even when he has the chance he doesn't. Iri? Let her be used as a sacrifice and never considered having Acht whip up a new vessel. Daddy? patricide on the notion he might continue his work (which he didn't even cause; brown girl took one his potions to prove his research and became a zombie) Kayneth? He so thoroughly emasculated him to where he just wanted to fuck off with his wife and shot him in cold blood cause 'no loose ends'. That's really the whole point of his character: he's responsible for all his own suffering. It's why Kotomine hates him. He thought he found another empty person but realizes he has the chances for happiness but keeps throwing it away.

As much as I like Kiritsugu, I never really saw it like that. I just saw it as him being too lazy to take the time to figure out how to cover up an entire airport seeing magic shit + dealing with said magic shit. He could have gone to where Natalia was going to land and determined whether or not it was possible to clear the plane without casualties and how before deciding to blow it up or not; he just didn't have the energy in him to care that much.

Just waiting for the plane to land is pretty risky. He didn't have much for dealing with bees, Natalia prioritized her own life, and it's over if a single bee gets out. It makes sense that he'd pick the method that's much more likely to work.

It's more likely to work because it requires less effort. But his goal was never to exert the least amount of effort, it was to save the most people. Choosing to not save Natalia seems closer to an unwillingness to put in effort than it does a desire to save an unknown figure named 'people'. As far as he knew, there could be 1 million people at the airport gate or there could be 1 person. If there was 1 person at the gate, it probably would have been better to risk whatever and save Natalia. Not bothering to go check out the airport/airplane situation more closely is really a mark of laziness. Not 'sloth'-tier laziness, mind you, just average inertial laziness.

Kiritsugu never actually properly taught Shirou hopw to turn his Magic CIrcuit on each time, so he kept recreating the connection to them each timw, then turning on said connection, rather than just simply hitting the on switch like he was supposed to. As a result, a good chunk of Shirou's Magic CIrcuits weren't being used like they were supposed to, and instead atrophied away - it's why he nearly paralyzes half his body in UBW.
