It fixes the anime/manga end in a satisfying way. Light tricks whatsherface's shinigami into killing L, just like in the manga, but L had already written his own name in the Death Note for a future date, so he doesn't die. He uses that opportunity to fake his death, then corner Light. It ends with both of them dying.

He does die dumbass. Just AFTER he beats Light.

Enjoyable.
Takes the series as a whole, takes out all the unnecessary fluff, and makes a more compelling ending as a result.

The L movie was dumb though.
