Probably one of my favorite shows just because of Watashi; a shame it didn't seem too popular.

After spoiling myself of the ending, I wish I could get my hands on the LN so I could translate/read it for myself.

Same. But I also really enjoyed the humor as a whole, which is pretty rare since anime humor is generally miss instead of hit for me. And how the episodes, premise and general idea of the show were so out there and different from the norm. In short, watching it was such a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air.

I think I read something about why the elevens have boke/tsukkomi just about everywhere, but I've forgotten it. Something about it being okay to laugh if someone else points it out?

I think it's more that the elevens are so used to classifying things as either boke or tsukkomi so they just do it by instinct.
She does tell people off and act as the straight man, but I find that she pretends not to notice or goes along with the madness more often than not. Whittling it down to an either/or of tsukkomi or boke is simplifying things too much.
