That's what I was alluding to with "evil identity thief", yes. She stole the memory of the real Chiaki and manipulates Hajime by whispering sweet nothings in his ear that he shouldn't feel guilty at all.

DR3 Chiaki really didn't deserve that shit. The very last time we saw her, she died in misery and despair and we were somehow expected to take hope away from that. It still unsettles me a little when I stop to think about it, both in terms of story implications and just irritation at bad writing. It really says something that every last one of the remaining active Chiakifags have elected to pretty much completely ignore DR3.

All they had to do was not bring back every last character from DR2 (and I include the AI there). It would be less of a kick in the teeth to have her not literally end up as a stepping stone to be tossed aside and essentially forgotten besides a "oh we totally won't forget you, now excuse me while I talk to this AI who looks like you".

I watched it while I was high so it seemed pretty good to me. Turns out it was shit, but we had a good time in the threads on /a/.

I'm a big fan of DR. Loved DR1 and SDR2 and DR:AE was fine. DR3 on the other hand was just bad. A very disappointing conclusion to what has been a vastly enjoyable series for me. At the very least the threads on /a/ whilst it aired was a lot of fun and we got more Junko.

DRV3 was pretty good as well, until it shat itself in the ending.

More hopeman was also pretty fun. His meeting with Makoto could have been a bit better however.

It really sucked how 77th class just hijacked the plot at the end though, and they even missed the perfect opportunity to have Hajime and Makoto do a double "Sore wa chigau yo/zo" to Mitarai.

The hopeman scenes were great, but really we didn't need to watch them. Hopeman didn't change, didn't grow throughout the series. And the cherry on the cake is at the end, he's back and alive and cured of all his mental illnesses so now he's just quirky cute instead of batshit insane. No. Just, no. I don't care for happy endings that aren't earned.
What I expect from Kodaka is to take his character on a journey so he can grow. Not force an arc with a foregone conclusion on us with Komaeda fanservice here and there so it's easier to swallow.
