Only good part of Space Brothers was the out of oxygen part, rest was boring. Planetes has more of a focus on story and characters, so it's nowhere near as boring as Space Brothers, but the main character is really annoying in the first half.

I have a question about this shit. Someone posted the OP for this in some thread and I watched it, I recognized Laika immediately and I didn't think much of it. But then there was a shot towards the end of the characters chasing a bunch of dogs, like they were trying to catch them.

Are they still sending dogs to space in this anime? Is there any animal abuse? Or were the dogs there for a different reason?

>Menstruation begins, almost always after the peak growth rate in height (average age is 12.5 years).

Difficult to say, I would assume she would still grow on a normal schedule. And she didn't seem to be going through any growing pains, so it's possible her growth spurt was already over. And they have an artificial-gravity they showed her in near the end of the show, which I assume they are using to keep her body from getting to unhealthy levels.
I'd be fine if she didn't grow much more, her body is already perfect.
Would be fun if she could get like 9 feet tall though.

>Assuming she made it to adulthood.
Please don't say such sad things about my future moon daughterwife.
I think the biggest concern for large people (outside of being too heavy, which wouldn't be a problem) is that your body can out-grow your heart, making it hard to circulate blood. But I'm sure in 2075 they can keep her alive into adulthood as long as she stays in low g.
She isn't the only Lunarian. Although it didn't sound like she had met any others, hopefully they are alive.

>>
>>153154633
I refuse to believe this and the mere thought is upsetting me.
I don't expect her to become a moon granny, but in that year there is no way a legal child of a heroic astronaut taken care of by the most expensive hospital in the universe would die. The very early years must be the hardest, but she is grown and active, she doesn't seem to have heart atrophy or need any support for physical activity.
I doubt she would ever visit earth, and I doubt she would live through physical problems elders get anyway. But I am positive she will live long enough for me to come to the moon and marry her.

>>
>>153163176
Ah so it's well put together but just botches the tone of the ending?
>>
>>153163249
The manga was ongoing when the anime aired. They had to come up with their own version of the ending of volume 3 and there was no volume 4. It's a radically different piece that tries to be and say different things. This triggers some people that wanted a straight 1:1 adaption, that would've sucked because of the difficulties in translating some of the content and tone of the original.
>>
>>153163290
Not 1:1 is fine, but if you're radically changing the tone of the ending and not just the events, you're shitting on the themes and ideas the author built up. That's definitely a bad thing.
>>
>>153139354
I've only read the manga, and it was great.

I wonder if Vinland Saga will end the same way.
>>
>>153163443
Anon, it's not claiming to be 'thing but animated', it's trying to be its own work. Are you familiar with the concept of adapting a work for another medium? Because it's not exactly uncommon for the people involved to try and make it their own thing. And as long as it's not done with contempt for the original, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. And it's not like the author disapproved of the changes, despite what some insist.
The worst thing that could've been done was a straight conversion that both fumbled the meaning of the original and brought nothing of its own. Are you going to tell me that the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film or 2003's Stand Alone Complex is shit because it was its own spin rather than a straight adaption of Shirow's manga, for example?
>>

>Jih Roh: Wolf Brigade
>Ergo Proxy
>Porko Rosso (as far as Ghibli movies go this one is almost not on the fucking radar with many)
>Desert Punk
>Shakugan no Shana (if you don't mind kinda standard shounen fair)

Of course I don't know just how "unknown" any of these are since I'm not especially in tune with the community.
>>
>>153163588
The Planetes dub has some surprisingly good performances but it's let down by shitty mixing and some inexplicable music changes.
>>
>>153155928

>stumbles upon the blissfully unaware Nono

>Decides not to kill her and fucks off to do terrorist things
Mind you, I'm not saying that he should have pulled the trigger; that would be idiotically edgy, but the sequence was dumb.

>Trying to adapt something then realizing you don't know the source ending and making up your own unfitting ending is ok
You sound like the kind of person who enjoyed the first FMA anime.
>>
>>153163811
I'm not a massive fan of the anime ending to Planetes mainly because of the odd position it leaves Tanabe in. I just think that the show itself represents a confident reinterpretation of the manga that deserves to be taken on its own merits, rather than 'it's different so it's shit'. And I don't get the anal pain that exists around the first FMA anime. As long as it's good in its own right there shouldn't be an issue, it just means it's not a stand-in for reading the manga. Admittedly, I say this having never watched it or Brotherhood.

When you adapt something, you can make it it's own thing and completely change the original or reinterpret it (like Forest Gump) or you can faithfully adapt the story and ideas within it while changing order of events, exposition, visual metaphors, etc. because of the change in mediums while not diluting the message. Starting off faithful and then changing everything at the end is just shit, because you're trying to force an ending that isn't supported by everything preceding it.

FMA is shit, go read the manga and watch Brotherhood.
>>
>>153163443
Not him, but that's silly. Judge it on its own, not on whether it does the same thing the author does.
>>
>>153163597
Except Desert Punk (which is still far from unknown) those are all very famous. Lurk before posting.
>>
>>153163995
If it were its own thing then it wouldn't be an adaptation. You're statement is inherently contradictory.
>>
>>153164017
I can't tell if this is bait or not with how retarded your wordgames are. In case you're serious - being an adaptation in no way prevents it from being judged on its own. If it's inaccurate but still entertaining/engaging/etc., then it's a good anime but simply not a good/faithful adaptation. Or are you going to tell me that Anno's segment of KareKano sucks?

The Manga, at least. Anime isn't that great.

Being good on its own is great if it's actually doing its own thing. Trying to follow the original and then at the climax throwing away everything it built up to is shit story telling because there's no internal consistency in thematic development.

Anno's KareKano was good because he made it his own thing with an overall different tone, then the author threw a bitchfit because she wanted a shitty shoujo melodrama instead. They should have just let Anno finish it his way.
>>
>>153164060
Shakespeare and many artists have adapted other works and made it their own. Works, regardless of adaptation or not, should be judged on their own merits.

Yeah, staying on Earth as a mom sucked, specially with how much she loved space.

> Trying to follow the original and then at the climax throwing away everything it built up to is shit story telling because there's no internal consistency in thematic development.
That's just having a bad ending, though. It has basically nothing to do with being faithful or not, or even being an adaptation in the first place.

This. There's also very little evidence that people grow tall in lower gravity like on Moon and Mars, as astronauts have only spend a couple of days on another planetary body (compared to up to a year in zero-g). There's some research that suggests Mars colonists, for example, would grow shorter than Earthborn humans, mostly because their muscles that support the spine would be weaker.

Fuck you, the anime gave us the fucking Coral Q song.

despite the dub clearly being a 4kids/inspired "hack job." I had a lot of fun with it. Had some top notch VAs like Richard Horvitz and Debbie Derryberry which made it pretty enjoyable. Might have to rewatch it someday

It's not just a bad ending, sometimes it's a bad second half, and it happens a lot with adaptations.

I really like how Tanabe goes from slightly bashful and shy to "Tonight...this boy gonna be mine" without acting like a bad anime girl trope like "No Senpai dont touch me there its dirty" or "Give me your big hard cawk".

It wasn't so much anime original as it was a reworking of an element present in the manga. Which describes pretty much the entire show, actually.

Kemono no Souja Erin was pretty damn great.
It also has one of the best OSTs ever, certainly the avsolute best of 2009.
>>
>>153168339
Why, did they have the terrorist confrontation in the manga? I'm not arguing for just keep it to the source idgaf about that. I just don't think this part was worked in well, or overall good. Even the end it sorta feels like your supposed to sympathize with Claire. Ugh, no? The bitch tried to drop a bomb and wipe out 100k+ people there is no coming back from that. Nono would have died god damn it!
>>
The anime for this series is brilliant. It's criminally unknown.
>>
>>153168478
The terrorists are in the manga, they try to destroy the Von Braun, they even directly attack Hachi. The anime actually has a scene that's designed to fuck with people that know the manga version. In the manga, Hachi is stopped from shooting Hakim because he's so damn surprised after Tanabe kisses him, and that's the 2pure thing that stops Hakim from continuing his terrorist stuff.
The terrorists do not try to crash the Von Braun into the moon, though. They basically moved it around a bit and tweaked the specifics.
