Pretty much 50 million views. Is Haruhi a Gateway anime now?
Gateway is what gets new people into anime. Haruhi is too entrenched in "anime culture" to attract someone unfamiliar with anime. But anybody with a small understanding of "anime culture" would enjoy Haruhi a lot and probably want to see more of the medium.
Actual gateway anime are things like Naruto, Shingeki no Kyojin, Code Geass, etc. Typically things even normalfags consider to be "cool".
At least there's new books...
Well there's the new spin-off season...
Well the spin-off books just released a new novel...
But it's the final one
RIP this series. I don't think even a new book or season can save it. There are barely any fans left.
It has always been a gateway anime.
I'm the biggest k-tard on this big gay earth and even I think k-on had weak performances.
Steins;Gate is the new gateway. New watchers don't even know what Haruhi is.
Doubt it. I think everything peaked in 2014 and then fell to a point where it's unrecoverable. After Endless Eight and Pachinko only a fraction of the old fans remain.
I'm saying that only 90's kids will remember
Well, it was one of my first anime series back in 2010, a lot of shit has happened in these last 7 years, but I still have Haruhi in my heart.
Watching Melancholy back then didn't help either
I first watched Haruhi in 2012 and am just now picking up the LN. So it's all still pretty fresh for me.
I wish I had gotten into anime when I was in my early teens though. Being a newcomer with no nostalgia is suffering.
You're going to nostalgia over shit that aired in 2012 in 3 more years.
And everyone is gonna shit on you.
MAL is a good source to know what is and isn't popular among anime fans, emphasis on anime fans, because it isn't that accurate when it comes to actual normalfags who barely watch anime since of course, they don't access MAL.
>you can remember when this was flavor of the month music on /a/
>now its full of poorly done idolshit
I've lived too long
>A couple of years ago threads on /a/ would never last more than a couple of days.
GJ-bu fags made sure to make their threads last almost a week, almost all the small threads had days long threads nigga.
moot said that /a/ had one million unique IPs per month and that 4chan as a whole had 20 million in his last live stream, which was the end of 2014 if I'm not mistaken?
According to to some sources and things Hiro said, 4chan only grew since then and it's even more popular now, just like anime is more popular now than it was before. So yeah, the 1 million figure isn't unrealistic at all.
You have to remember that the vast majority of those 1 million people are lurkers, just like in all sites on the internet, lurkers are always the majority.
Hard to know. Probably the people who want to keep track on their series but are too lazy to do what >>153121908 said. I sure hope that no anon is retard enough to actually engage in discussions there.
I think that labeling Code geass, Naruto, DBZ, SAO and all those really popular shows as gateway would be inaccurate, since the term is more to describe an specific type of show than to just name popular stuff.
In my opinion, Gateway anime is something like Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Berserk, Monster, Kaiji and Satoshi Kon films, which are all excelent works in my opinion, but the thing is that they are extremely easy to introduce to normalfags since they don't carry most of the tropes that the medium is known for and are also more ''grounded'' than your average anime, while also being easy to get into considering they have engaging plots and narratives.
