Just finished marathoning the show and EoE.

Holy fuck what a garbage show. Every single character was super shallow and annoying to watch. The soundtrack made no sense in 90% of the episodes and the the pacing made me want to kill myself. I like the general concept of the show, but I honestly feel like I could have started at the last 4/5 episodes. None of the characters feel like they develop, each is always consumed by their main "trait".
Shinji: Whinny Bitch
Asuka: Tsundere
Rei: Mysterious Fap Material

Even during the finally, after all they'd been through, these traits were always their #1 feature. BTW, learning their past doesn't constitute good character development. They should have had SOME sort of personality change during the course of the entire show.

Of course, this is all tied up neatly by the constant problems all animes like this one exhibit. One such being cheap animation (seriously some single frames stayed on screen for over 30 sec w/ no dialogue). Other's being poor explanations for complex plots (lots of stuff vaguely implied rather than explained). Lastly, this shows episodes usually only had worthwhile information in 40-50% of it, leaving the rest to be filled by meaningless carachter interactions or reminding the viewer that shinji is a bitch.

TLDR This is one of the most mediocre animes I have ever seen (short of the last 50% of EoE, which was somewhat interesting).

Next stop: Gurren Lagann.
