It's a bag. You don't even need to treat it very well and it'll last forever.
>>
Backpacks for schoolchildren are overpriced everywhere, but the thing is that japanese glorify everything mandatory. Every child needs a backpack, so it will be compares to the other children, so of course you have to show that you are good parents by having the most expensive one. And if everybody thinks that way, than cheap backpacks just don't sell, completely independent of the quality.

Unlike in America where you aren't a cool kid if you don't have a new backpack every year, you're supposed to get a randoseru when you enter elementary school and keep using it every year until middle school. It goes without saying that they're more expensive and higher quality. Usually it's a gift from grandma or something.

These are fruits that are specifically sorted out because they have an aesthetic shape and color. They're more expensive because they're designed to be set out as gifts to friends, family, and business partners at meetings. There is also the case that the quality of a gift is directly correlated to its price.

No one actually buys fruit at that price to eat for themselves.
>>
>>153088696
They bought it at the designated store the school told them to buy from.

300 bucks for anything fashion will always be considered medium level pricing. What the hell do you expect an actual lamb leather backpack to cost for example?

>>153104130
No it isnt. In fact, you can live pretty damn cheaply by buying shit that is on sale. Every evening they sell the Sushi for like 80% off because they arent legally allowed to sell it on the next day. Restaurant meals also are dirt cheap if you know where to eat. Its all the other shit that is expensive in Japan, like public transportation and rent, especially in big cities.

I didn't even read the thread to see if anyone mentioned, but randoserus come with warranty and free repairs for the entirety of elementary school.
Randoserus without that warranty aren't so expensive

Nip loving fags will try and tell you it's because you pay for something of good quality that will last, when in reality it's just the companies who make the bags taking advantage of the fact that parents will cough up bank-loads in order to buy what is effectively a status symbol for their child.

If you make something people will buy regardless, you can charge whatever outlandish price you like. Same reason the price of poultry skyrockets during Christmas.

OP, it's an all-leather bag that's meant to last the kid for 6 years straight, day-in and day-out. $320 for a backpack like that is actually pretty good; compare that to bags from some place like the Saddleback Leather Company of similar size and design intent and you'll see what I mean.

Not that I'm defending schools that -require- that kind of expense on a backpack for a kid to go to their school (I think it's crap), but it doesn't really seem like the bag is overpriced for what it is.

WHY IS JAPAN SUCH A JEW
>>
WHY JAPANESE PEOPLE
>>
>>153103192
>>153104763
My family own orchards in Australia and have had contracts exporting stuff to Japan. Holy fuck the Japs are sticklers for quality. Everything has to be roughly the same size (within a couple of millimetres) free of any kind of freckles, blemishes and the same colour before being washed three times and wax covered. They also have specific demands about the cleanliness of the facility which is impossible to maintain without sectioning off it's own special area and paying people to clean it at every opportunity. Because of these demands, they pay VERY well.

>>153104940
If you buy nothing but A Grade, organic certified export quality produce from the big supermarkets then yes, it is expensive. You've gotta shop around at independent shops owned by characters like Con the Fruiterer to find decent stuff at good prices.
>>
>>153120350
That sounds like a big waste of resources.

But they probably import lesser qualities too.
>>
>>153088696
It's probably name brand since that fucking spoiled piece of shit picked it like the trend-following slut she is.
>>
>>153120583
It was. At the time we made the original contract, it was profitable. However markets fluctuate and the cost of business changes. The contract however stays constant. They weren't open to renegotiation so we ended up dropping the contract at the first opportunity. Most people I've talked to about Japanese export have said the same thing, it's not really worth the effort. If it's anything like Australia, lesser quality is sold locally to independents or sold to canneries for preserves. The cheapest stuff is always going to come from close by because of low transport costs. Added benefit is that it's usually pretty fresh too. I know nothing about Japanese farming though.

Look, I grew up dirt poor and I'm not exactly rich now, either. The time excuse is bullshit; the real problems are the lack of self-control, laziness, poor education, and inability to take responsibility for your actions.

>Then people suggesting rice was a healthier alternative to bread.
Funny because if you check the English speaking forums for Singapore, they are saying the exact opposite.

>A lot of Asians have diabetes
Relative to whom? If compared to the rest of the world, especially Americans, they have less. Diabetes mostly comes from over-consumption of soft drinks and snacks in general rather than consumption of staple food, proven by many studies conducted worldwide.
If you don't want to have diabetes, just moderate your consumption of snacks and soft drinks and the rest will take care of itself.

>all white rice is processed
Depends on what you mean processed. All food are processed since nobody want to eat plants mixed with dirt.
Wheat flour is made by processing and milling wheat. Flour is processed further to removed most impurities before packaged and shipped.

So, it's basically trash in /pol/ demonstrating their insecurity as usual.

You can get cheap apartments in Tokyo, you can get expensive apartments in Tokyo.

On average I would say you get apartments at a more reasonable price in Tokyo than you do in most other capital cities. Cost of living is fuck all as well really, if you actually buy food at a supermarket. If I didn't eat out at all I could get by on around 4k yen a week on food, and that isn't resorting to cup noodles for half my meals.

The people who say that Japan is expensive to live in don't actually live in Japan. Most likely they just come as tourists and don't actually find the supermarkets and places they can eat cheaply.
>>

Fruit prices in Japan vary.

The market I go to sorts out the bananas and tomatoes into three tiers. The cheapest tomatoes cost about $1 each, and they're perfectly fine, better than what you'd get in America, but the color is a little off. Then you've got the mid-priced tomatoes and bananas, which are just as good but maybe a little larger and have a better color, then you've got premium fruit, which costs a lot because you're literally buying perfect specimens and pique ripeness.

Food here can be cheap. For dinner today I ate at a restaurant and I got black tea, miso soup, a bowl of rice, a salad, and a hamburg steak, and it only cost about $5.

I can understand the desire to pay for a nice bag from a fashion and utility perspective, but let's not kids ourselves that it's absolutely necessary to spend a lot on a bag. Buy what you can afford/appreciate. Money like that is better spent on clothing or tools, but as an architect I don't have a 'uniform' or sorts like a lawyer (suit) or a Jap student. Here, most of the private schools cater to alternative pedagogic theories, and the parents who send their children to those are usually nut jobs. Others cater to religious beliefs. So that's where the money comes from.

There probably are very few private schools that exist just to promote excellence, but they are very, very rare. Generally, parents trust public schools enough to not support any noteworthy private school landscape.

Not him, but in this situation you're wrong.
Randoseru are notoriously expensive in Japan, even for the standard of the population.

For a typical japanese loli or shota, it's customary for the grandparents to gift the kid their randoseru before the start of the first school year they'll need it, precisely because it's so expensive.

They're really heavy and sturdy, and they're not just sown leather, but actually pressed into 'planks' so that it never bends out of shape and remains usable for like 10 years, so that it can become a fixture in your attic to look at when you're nostalgic.

It's not really a matter of quality, it's more of a monopoly, since there's like one big manufacturer that makes the ones 99% of people buy, and the law of supply and demand, since every kid will only buy one over the course of their entire lives.

TL;DR Randoseru are expensive only because you only buy one in your entire lives and there's a monopoly on them

But public schools are better and more selective here. If your child is stupid and you still want him/her to get an acceptable education you have to pay for private schools which are almost as good as the lower mid-tier public schools.
>>
>>153137872
I am Japanese and used one for school. As you've said I still have mine and it's as good as it was when I got it. But there are cheaper alternatives but they don't last, and lose their shape over a few years. It's definitely a brand thing to some degree but the build quality is very high.

>>153138304
I can't imagine those stiff things being comfy at all. Your back must be like half brokeded.
>>

They're very comfy and have good support. I wish it was okay to use them even at my age.

Your backpack should fit your needs, that's why people pay more money. I needed something that was adaptable, so I bought pic related. It can handle a laptop, a binder, and a rain jacket and still fit on my lap if I ride the bus, but isn't as cumbersome as a full blown hiking backpack if I take it on a day hike and carry a few things.

>>
>>153138397
Don't professional hiking packs have stiff frames because they support your back in the long run?

I think it's stiff, but also kinda flexible to a point. As in it has to fit your back, so it can't be hard as a wooden plank.

I think prices are unreasonably expensive in japan only in anime tho. Like, in anime dude gets taxi, and pays 150K yen,or buys t-shirt for 50K yen, wtf? If its really that expensive, i think i will delay my trip in japan for few years....

I care very little about autistic food quality because they are fucking gone after you eat them. You only fucking keep them for a little while before you own nothing at all.
I seriously see high quality food as a fucking waste of money simply for not having any long term value at all.

Other way around, fatsos are weak-willed, and this spills over to their job outlook because they can't be assed to exercise, cook food, or work hard.

You don't need a study for common sense, and even if there was a study it'd be a psychology study so it'd be shit anyway

The reality is that cooking food isn't difficult, but fatsos are the type who want instant gratification so they stuff their mouth full of pre-cooked shit that takes 2 min to cook in the microwave

These travel videos are made by people who cherrypick expensive items for the "omg !! japan so expensive !!" meme. The uber expensive fruits are gifts with perfect shape/color. Actual fruits and vegetables in supermarkets cost less than that.

I've been living in Japan for 10 years, and it's not that expensive.

In Burgerland, some private schools before university are resorts for rich families to send their kids and help build their connections and/or arrange marriages. Others are typical Catholic schools or rep alternate teaching methods.

The vast majority of private universities are utter trash degree mills that exist solely to profit from the student loan industry. The ones that aren't tend to be widely renowned, plus a big enough endowment such that only rich students actually pay anywhere near full tuition. And for the most part, the only real benefit of going to famous private universities over public ones is the opportunity to get connected with the landed elite that enroll as a matter of course.

I went to one of those Renowned ones, and while it was more expensive they literally bent over backwards with whatever I needed to get my degree. Meanwhile my experience with the CSU system was full of bullshit bureaucracy, and red tape, it felt like they threw up every barrier possible to prevent me from graduating, which is why I left, I just got fed up with the bullshit.
