God, no way the anime could survive being so fucking slow and continue to get seasons like this. There's just not enough high-stakes stuff going on.

This would make more sense:

S1: Izuku Midoriya /fit/ club -> Quirk Apprehension Test/Trial of Battle -> USJ (1-cour)

S2: Sports Festival -> Field Training/Stain Arc -> Ending Stinger on AFO face reveal (switch it to before semester final if it comes after that) (24-episodes)

S3: Semester Final -> Mall Confrontation -> Lodge Attack -> End of the Beginning, Beginning of the End (24 episodes)

You need low-stakes/character development/SoL stuff AND high stakes life-or-death shit in the same season. Just having the sports festival seems like a waste. It's neat character development but with no Stain arc to show Todoroki becoming less autistic, Midoriya developing his power, Iida's character arc there's no payoff to it.

The newest volume is getting flamed in Amazon JP. It's the "provisional license exam" arc. People are calling it a redundant story that feels pointless after so many chapters of the heroes fighting villains. They also talk about how the setting is becoming too small and hasn't grown and the story is stagnating. They complain that Hori keeps introducing character after character and then not doing anything with them as well. One person complained that Ochako's crush on Deku could be better implement and that it doesn't feel cute or appealing right now.

The provisional license exam arc makes sense but it feels like there should've been more before it, or something different after it.

Instead it's been this progression of new characters being introduced who are all implied to be better/more experienced than 1-A despite 1-A having now fought off murderers in life-or-death battles with no pro backup AT LEAST twice already.

Windy shows up and he's cool but he's implied to be stronger than Todoroki. The 2nd years are shown as being more experienced and developed fighters and 1-A has to really scrap to make it out.

Then we have the "big three" introduced and their presumed leader dunks on the entire fucking class in a one-on-18 match.

We get all these 2nd years from other schools introduced, new sempai, hints of unresolved plot threads like Shinsou, currently unresolved threads like wtf happened to Kemi/Caime/whatever.

Now All Might had a sidekick, which is something the prime All Might Sperg Midoriya and All Might himself has never ever once mentioned ever and never thought of even when he was thinking of doing field work.

Everything since AFO's defeat has been buildup- to what? When the other shoe drops it better be a big fucking deal or a lot of people are going to be annoyed. If this whole thing with the VA and Overhaul and all these plot threads and foreshadowing end with Deku and Co. mopping up Overhaul in an arc and then Shiggy gets nothing of note done again making another run on UA then it's gonna be really disappointing.

Also the Provisional License exam didn't really feel like it had a proper climax. Todoroki and Windy get their heads straight and manage to marginally annoy Gang Orca, and after not doing much on screen Deku kicks him (which Gang Orca no-sells).

We assume Bakugou fails for being an asshole but we don't really see him do anything during the rescue portion of the exam.

Windy seems to have been expressly created for the purpose of throwing Todoroki off his game. Todoroki learns nothing besides that yes, he apparently is still fucked up because of his dad.

Deku honestly doesn't do much during the rescue portion. He "Saves" one person who berates him, then kicks a few mooks and mildly inconveniences Gang Orca.

Toga's quirk finally revealed results in us getting not one but two new hanging plot threads: What the fuck is she gonna do with his blood, and what the fuck happened to Kemi

The rest is kind of a wet fart. We get a handy excuse for Todoroki and Bakugou to not be present for any fights because they're currently ahead of the power curve. Bakugou gets a double-dose of this to avoid fighting Mirio, and Todoroki abstains as well for BS reasons.

From there, Hori NEEDED to give all the characters a boost and develop the world being shaken up more.

Really, when you look at his formula, it's pretty solid most of the time, and now that he deviated it's hard to return to the formula:

This is what gets me. I know that Shiggy's progress has to mirror Deku's since the whole theme is that they're both "students" learning their respective trades but Shiggy's end of the world is far darker and less forgiving of fuckups so he looks really fucking clownish with how much he loses and gets played.

the longer and the more buildup you have the more you have to make it pay off or it's boring- and everything after AFO has been buildup. Much longer and even major cast deaths won't be enough to make up for us being jerked around.

Let's be honest. I at no point ever saw shiggy as anything but some spoiled cunt that at no point ever lived up to being worth the ink used on him or consideration of anyone in the story.

He sucks outright. His power is ridiculous and way to hax to ever be used in a satisfactory way in the type of setting the story takes place in.

It at points has really nightmare fuel type villans but have really silly and even cute heroes that would be taken apart in seconds.

It's not balanced. The only one in the story who even seems to acknowledge this is allmight and allfor one.
I'm not even sure if anyone has actually created power tiers for the heroes, or licenses based on the outright destructive potential of their powers.
