I have Berserk, NGE and Death note on my 3x3, so it goes without saying that I think highly of them. I'd consider Code Geass a very good show if R2 was on par with the first season, but it became too much ''let's just make shit up on the spot'' for my taste. Lain is probably the most overrated show on 3x3 threads and /a/ as a whole. And, is that Naruto? I really hope not.

I have a feeling that I already watched bottom left, but can't quite remember by the shot you use.
>>153079406
Not really a fan of GitS film. LOGH is good. Mononoke Hime is okay but It wouldn't be my Ghibli of choice. Mushishi, Tatami Galaxy and Perfect blue are good. Mononoke is decent.
>>153079624
The only anime that I really like in your 3x3 is K-ON. After story was really good on its best, but also terrible in many parts. Monogatari is fun, but I don't consider it good enough to be on a 3x3. I hate Spice and Wolf with passion.
>>153079725
Your 3x3 is very lukewarm to me, not too bad, nor good, just okaish as it gets.
>>153079974
Berserk and FMA are good, bonus point if you choose 2003 over brotherhood. The rest okay to meh.
>>
>>153080320
>I hate Spice and Wolf with passion
but why
>>
>>153080369
Because Holo is a 300 years old being and Lawrence is a grown up man who traveled throughout the whole land and yet, their relationship works like a highschool romance in many(most) aspects. I also can't stand that they travel and sleep together for months and yet nothing happens between them, despite sexual tension and mutual feelings appearing all the time.

I watched a long time ago, but If I remember correctly my dislikeness for the series only awoke in the second season. I remember finding the dialogues pretty corny and the scenes and drama not so different from the average romance anime I tend to watch, except that the setting and characters in Spice and Wolf made things worse. I did not help that the series doesn't have any conclusion and only left a bad taste in my mouth.

As for the economics, I don't mind them that much, but think the show would probably be better without.
>>
>>
>>153080652
I dropped it a few episodes into the 2nd season, when i realised that Holo is the teen girl equivalent of a self insert character.
Having to deal with her sassy selfcentered personality because she's powerfull and shit pisses me off to be honest.
It's like fucking inuyasha with this dog collar situation.

If you're watching Spice and Wolf for a romance story you're going to be underwhelmed by the anime. It's about characters doing what they can to explore new and unusual settings together, the same reason I list Log Horizon and Cowboy Bebop (though S&W is significantly more wordy). Also where else is an economist supposed to find an anime whose plot revolves around commodities bubbles?

I enjoyed HxH and Rakugo. Your choices are almost all shows that are deemed entry level, but you care about animu enough to spend time making this grid, you are an intriguing anon.
>>153080320
Kaiji is a great read/watch. SSY, HHD and Katanagatari are shows I associate with each other despite their content. They are recent but have a pseudo-alternative feel, even in spite of their popularity. Kyousougiga would fit as well. My feelings are mostly negative about SSY though.

>>153084168
Thumbs up for Mushishi, Natsume, and Baccano. Loved Patlabor earl days, lukewarm on Gunbuster. As interesting as the ideas behind Gosenzosama were i can't ignore that it is easily the most poorly animated thing posted in this thread. Liked PB, Patlabor Movies, GoW and Hotarubi. Big fat meh for KnK, AotH was alright.
>>153085972
Plus for Rakugo and Flip Flap. If I'm honest Amanchu, Tanaka and Akagami bored the shit out of me.
>>153088891
Tsuritama was fun. Though I'd have liked it more if they hadn't spread the drama so thick on the latter half.
>>153089202
More images I recognise but don't. Is that Hyouka? I don't recall the scene but it was fine. Is that Wolf Children? I don't recall the scene but it was fine. I do love YKK.

K-On! doesn't directly play with the emotions, and the characters in K-On have very detailed characterization.
In fact, what makes K-On! so amazing is that it builds up the connections with the characters rather than using sensationalism to pull emotions from the viewer (like Keyshit).
>>
>>153103660

That's literally the opposite of K-On.
>>
>>153103765
>>153103776
>and the characters in K-On have very detailed characterization.
Characters in K-ON have extremely straightforward and simplistic characterization. Most of them have their personalities completely defined within a few minutes after their introduction and we can summarize them all in very few lines, since they aren't detailed or complex.

Granted, the plot in K-ON isn't melodramatic, but the keion's reactions to what happens in it is, as their display of emotions is portrayed in a very exaggerated and idealized way.

Also, denying that K-ON tries to appeal more to emotion than anything else is pure delusion. Coming from someone who actually likes the anime.

The entire anime was built on characterizing the characters. If you read the Yamada interviews, she said that they wanted to flesh out the characters lives both out of school, as well as inside the clubroom. Their rooms were personalized and memorable, every character played both the tsukkomi and boke role, and there were tons of little things that were more subtle than their overt reactions such as Ritsu being a poorfag, Mugi being inhumanly strong, Azusa actually loving cuteshit and sweets, and Mio's love for dadrock.
>>

>Ritsu being a poorfag, Mugi being inhumanly strong, Azusa actually loving cuteshit and sweets, and Mio's love for dadrock.
Those are quirks and/or habits, it's like saying that the fact Asuka speaks german is a important part of her character or personality, when it's literally just a quirk.

Yui is lazy and has attention problems, but deep down she also has incredible potential and talent to learn new things quickly. She's also clingy, loves the company of others, cute things and is very dependent of others. She had no purpose or goal in life before entenring the light music club, but that change over time as she forged deep bonds with her friends.

That's basically the totality of Yui's character and the vast majority of those things are estabalished in two or three episodes, with the exception of her development that happens within season 1, which is baby-tier characterization for any work that's known for well rounded and complex characters.
>>
>>153104797
those are all just tropes, not real personalities. No human being acts like the K-On characters.

>>
>>153104933
>No human being acts like the K-On characters.
That's not even the matter here. Because a character who has inhuman but complex personality would be considered good.

The thing with the keions isn't that they are unrealistic, it's that their personality, character and behavior is very simplistic and idealized.

K-ON is objectively better than Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It is the most sophisticated anime ever created; a tour de force, the pièce de résistance of animation! LoGH is little more than plebeian dreck in comparison, its creators wishing they could have produced an anime with even an inkling of the genius contained within Our Holy K-ON. From the profound debates about eating cake, to the highly philosophical discussions about procrastination, to the marvelous musicianship exhibited by the Light Music Club, K-ON has established itself as the greatest intellectual anime. You cannot disagree unless you are a terrible person. Seriously. It's an infallible law of the universe. K-ON is a masterpiece, and we all know that K-ON has the superior tea scenes.

"A phenomenal chef-d'oeuvre. My fifteen years of work on Evangelion now feel trivial by comparison." — Anno Hideaki, esteemed anime director

"During a time of struggle, K-ON's beautiful story provided the influence needed for me to make America great again. I am now a better man." — Donald J. Trump, 45th president of the United States

"I am an uncultured lowborn with pedestrian tastes in anime." — Anonymous plebeian, speaking in reflection of his love for LoGH
>>
>>153105247
This is the truth. Kyoani crafted not a anime, not a "story", but a universe. It's every bit as detailed, every bit as supple and responsive as ours. It's a moving Sistine Chapel ceiling. There are thousands of themes seamlessly woven together. And like any well-designed instrument, "K-ON!!" APPEARS to be simple to the the more simpleminded people.

To be quite fair, K-ON would be considered one of the most complex and deep masterpieces of both visual medium and literature if it wasn't hidden within so many layers of subtlety.

>Those are quirks and/or habits, it's like saying that the fact Asuka speaks german is a important part of her character or personality, when it's literally just a quirk.
EVA is plot heavy, and Asuka speaking german has no bearing on the plot, but the quirks of the Keions heavily influence their interactions with each other, which is the bread and butter of K-On!

You are also forgetting that she works the hardest out of any person in the club and has high emotional intelligence. She perfectly understands her little sister and knows full well that she depends on her (she wrote an entire song based on it, U&I).

>>153104933
Since the other anon mentioned Asuka, one of the messages of EVA was that interactions reflected personality. K-On! is very interaction heavy, and quirks are revealed by interaction. Their interactions reveal tons of personality. I'll admit that the scope of K-On! is limited to my memory and vocabulary, but there is a lot of subtly to the characters and how they interact with each other. Take any two characters of K-On! and their interactions between them differs significantly from any other characters.

>>153104962
Standard CGDCT relies on rehashing jokes, such as Kinmosa and Aya's love for Yoko, or Gochiusa and Rize's sudden military-esque reactions to mundane things. K-On! avoids this. It evolves and changes its jokes and is much more realistic about its comedy, mimicking how actual friends in real life interact rather than using stereotypes for rehashing jokes.

Sure, highschool girls in real life don't ever talk about boys or sex and mostly just get sad because their friends stole her cake. Face it, anon, the characters in K-ON are the epitome of moe idealization, the epitome of purity, simplicity and naivety and that's why it's good. Have you interacted with a gaggle of girls who live in Japan and attend an all girls school?
>>
>>153106411
Of course, anon, all that highschool girls do is eating sweets, drinking tea and talking about fluffy things all the time, there's nothing idealized about that. In fact, girls never talk about boys, love relationships and just behave like cute little kids who are made of marshmallow.
>>153106834
Have you? I can assure you that what I said above is more a matter of hormones than social circle. Besides, japanese girls who attend an all girls school are still influenced by a globalized world and media.
>>
>>153106834
I doubt you did, which makes this point pointless.

Why would they be talking about those things? The show focuses on their interactions in their club including them dicking around, why would they suddenly start asking each other if they ever thought about sucking dick? When a show doesn't focus on sexualizing its cast, it's shit with unrealistic characters pandering to neckbeards. When it does sexualize its cast talking about periods or what boys like, it's shit with unrealistic characters pandering to neckbeards. There's no winning with you, anon.

The Keions were made to feel as close to real high school girls as possible. Their designs, settings, and interactions were all made with this in mind.
Idealized, yes, but heavily grounded in reality.

this is the most generic "im so smart" taste I've ever seen

The girls have idealized behavior, this is a fact. The fact that they don't show any of the things I said and depict them as being extremely childish, innocent and overly cute is literally proof of this.

>The show focuses on their interactions in their club including them dicking around
This changes nothing of what I said. The anime shows them doing all sort of activities and is focused on their everyday life and yet, it only shows positive things, fun things, cute things, fluffy things, innocent things, in short, it show an idealized version of what we want a group of highschool girls to be. It's like having a anime with only highschool guys and only show them eating ramen and talking sports or action movies, but never talking about girls or never having any real struggle or sad thing happening to them, it would be an idealized version of what a boy life is like.

And I'm just touching the tip of the iceberg, there's much more reasons to tell for sure that the keion's behavior is idealized and not realistic, I just gave they not talking about boys as an example because if you were ever around a lot of girls, you would know that they do nothing but talk about men and relationships unless you try to put the conversation in another direction, especially at young age.

>There's no winning with you, anon.
Nope, you just have the wrong idea of what K-ON really is. I consider K-ON good on what it tries to achieve, which isn't realism by any means.

>Idealized, yes, but heavily grounded in reality.
There's many anime that would fit this description, K-ON isn't one of them.

I never talked about the opposite sex in school with my friends, anon, especially not during club activities. I guess I don't exist either. Also, I knew plenty of people who didn't have any real struggles or just never talked about their problems. What you're describing is melodrama and acting as if people act the way they do in your TV shows, expositing their character motivations and have a big climactic argument when all their problems come to a head where everything gets resolved through some big fight or something, which isn't reality.

>if you were ever around a lot of girls, you would know that they do nothing but talk about men and relationships unless you try to put the conversation in another direction, especially at young age.
I was around plenty of sluts, anon, I know there's plenty of girls who define themselves by their relationship status, but it's the same for guys and generalizing that all of them should be one way is fucking retarded. You live in a world where people identify as flying dogs and infants at the same time while they're a grown ass woman in college, I'm not sure what leg you're standing on that not talking about boys makes them unrealistic.

>I never talked about the opposite sex in school with my friends, anon,
You either was a very quiet person, as opposed to any of the girls in K-ON, or you didn't had any real close friend at school, again, as opposed to any of the K-ON girls.

>I knew plenty of people who didn't have any real struggles
I'm talking about negative sides in your life. Literally every person has them in way or another, especially in their teenage years where everyone is very confused and don't have much knowledge or self-awareness yet, due to hormones and lack of experience. Especially girls, who are the most emotional unstable creatures when in their teens.

I'm also talking about negative sides in their personality, which are almost nonexistent
>but yui is lazy and autistic
Yeah, to make her even more moe, innocent and cute. Every ''negative'' side of the keions is there to make them even more and cute, like Mugi not really knowing how to act in simple situations because she was born in a very wealthy family.

>What you're describing is melodrama bla bla
Top strawmen.

>I was around plenty of sluts, anon
Nope, not sluts. Girls in general, sluts or not, especially among themselves talk a lot about boys, there's no way around that. Like I said, it's a matter of hormones.

> I'm not sure what leg you're standing on that not talking about boys makes them unrealistic.
Try to interpret what I type. What I am saying is that every side of K-ON characters is there to either be innocent, cute, moe or to give you a generally positive vibe, not to be realistic. The girls talking about guys would be a element that would decrease the level of idealization and make things more close to home, which is something that none of K-ON fans want, I assure you.

Is this a new epic maymay?
