I hate people that do this but play the VN. It's one of the few good ones because it's basically anime.
And it's uncesnored too.

While school days gets a lot of hate, I am willing to defend it.

Too me, the anime was never about the arc of the mc, or the budding relationship between the mc and the girls, or the love triangle.

It was solely about kotonoha and feeling sorry for her.
It was taking those feelings of pity we have when we see cute young girls' lives fall apart and put under stress, and creating an expoitation anime out of it.
In short, it's pity moe.
And it does a good job.

The anime sticks with you for a long time.
If you go into it treating it like it is a trashy exploitation anime exploiting a certain type of feeling, you will enjoy it more.
Then you don't have to feel the pressure of having to like the main characters.
