I like the story, and the author has left a bunch of foreshadowing in place to give ideas as to how this whole thing is taking place. Like Subaru not being the only person from earth and so on, the the apparent love Subaru has for Satella the witch, which as for as i'm concerned could mean he has been in that world 400 years ago, and forgot everything, or he's a reincarnation of the person who lived 400 years ago.

They cut out the ending that was supposed to show things going horribly wrong and the checkpoint updating. The idea of the show is that he can fix everything thanks to his power if he puts his back to it, and we get to see how he struggles with it. Most shows involving this just go "and then he died 100 times" and suddenly we get a jaded character who can do the entire loop on it's own like some sort of monster.

He on the other hand is just a normal human, who can't get used to the pain and suffering of it, and just wants to have a happy life and cherishes the interactions he has with people, so losing them due to dying is also painful for him.

Also Emilia doesn't love him, she probably does feel something for him, but she is LITERALLY a girl with the mentality of a 13 year old at the moment, despite being like 17-18 in human years.

It's more than that, Emilia seems jealous of nearly everyone and evious of their relationship.

Her character has a good balance of contrasting elements. She's got a sympathetic backstory, but it doesn't try too hard to emphasize how bad she's had it or make her look faultless in it. Rather, much of it was just her own neurosis, though it's understandable why she turned out that way.

She has a wide array of genuine flaws that aren't just reasons why she needs the MCs support, and which are often just as significant as her positive qualities.

The WN gives Rem a much stronger and more cunning personality, but also makes her look like a creep. Like "male lead of a cheap romance novel" levels of creep. If she didn't have that, she wouldn't have been able to prank Subaru into falling for her.

Takeru signs up for the army thinking it'll be a blast to operate giant robots, then realizes that being a hair's breadth away from death really sucks, and also he gets treated like shit by his squadmates for being squeamish about CPR and the dead weight dragging the squad down, and also he can't understand all the nippon banzai being thrown around. Half of Muv Luv was spent being a fish out of water.

Same with Re: Zero, Subaru waltzes into the new world and expects it to work exactly like his Japanese animes, then gets punched in the face by Julius for his social faux pas.

Well, that scene there is a joke, but Subaru does slit his throat trying to save her at one point. The actual prank was right after the whale fight, when he gives her the whole "I love you and can't live without you" speech.

But yeah, Rem is used to milk the tragedy scenes.

It's definitely one of the best anime I've seen. Heck definitely one of the best works of fictions I've seen.

The hate has more to do with it being popular. I haven't read the LN's but even if the LN's are far better RE:Zero is still one of the best anime out there. There aren't many anime as good as it.

It's not clear what Rem suspected his backstory was, but her words suggest she suspected some nasty history with the Witch Cult. It'd actually be pretty interesting to see what could be assumed from Subaru if you look at him as a former Witch Cultist.

When Subaru screams at her about what he did before, how he did nothing and gave up and ran away from everything, it could be interpreted very differently. From his perspective, he's talking about being a NEET. From the perspective of someone else who assumes he has a dark past with the Witch Cult that he can't talk about? That comes across very differently.

It sounds like the words of a man who watched things happen that they disagreed with, but did absolutely nothing to stop any of it.

I hadn't actually thought about that, that's kind of neat. She's also pretty initially cautious and waits to assess the situation, since she doesn't do anything against Al either besides warn Subaru to be careful, and he seemingly also has the smell.

Average isekai with an interesting premise and an above average MC.
Several very good episodes.
Outside it's own threads it's doomed to unfair criticism due to it's popularity.
Inside it's own threads it's the usual LN/Waifufag circlejerk.
Would have been better if it avoided the harem tropes it fell into in the later episodes.
