How much of this is just traced from photos? Serious question. To do these from scratch and imagination would be massive amounts of work just for a background that is shown for a few seconds.

Cutting corners would be a reasonable thing to do but I know some artists would be dead against it and a lot of these look better than straight traces.

Anyone actually have insider information to confirm one way or another?

The point of tilt-shift photography is that it makes the real world LOOK like a model, because tilting the lens in its barrel causes the top and bottom of the image to go out of focus, which when shooting a large, fairly flat landscape, makes it look like it has the sort of tight depth of field you'd get when filming something small up close. It especially adds to the effect if you speed the footage up or even cull the frames down to 12fps so it looks like stop-motion animation, which filmakers will often do, and is the effect replicated in the Konosuba ED.
