Postarie. I thought this kid's design is really cute from the start! Round hat, yellow green/pink hair parted into two sides like wings, epaulettes decorating her hat, shoulders, and waist. One of the most MG-looking MG!

And so I was quite disappointed that Postarie wasn't a fighter. Poor combat skills. Timid personality, couldn't interact that well with anyone who isn't her only friend, Rain Pou. And even with Rain Pou, she couldn't communicate too smoothly. Like Funny Trick who was dragged around by Captain Grace, I initially wondered if Postarie suffered the same "disease" and got dragged around by Rain Pou.

Posterie was quite a special child. She couldn't make friends, and was terribly afraid of being bullied, so she went to strange and extreme means of avoiding people, the so-called "cyberstalking and absolute self-concealment."

Even though she wanted a friend more than anyone else, she lacked the desire to actively making friends. Quite a "weirdo" child. Normally, to avoid becoming a prime target for bullies, you would want to stay in a modest group of 2-3 people because it's safe and comfortable, rather than "maintaining an unobtrusive one-man position." And so, Sakaki Tatsuko became a solitary loner in class. Never reached out to anyone despite all her longing.

Another important characteristic of Postarie is that she is very observant. Because she didn't want to be bullied, she had become very good at observing people to look for signs. There were several depictions of what she looked at in a person, but the most notable one was when she was with Maou Pam. Maou through the eyes of Postarie was very interesting.

Yet, despite her abnormal affinity for solitude and sharp eyes, Tatsuko let Kaori penetrate her world. Tatsuko cannot go back to a life without friends. She really needs Kaori.

Postarie did not want to be a MG and would rather go back to her normal human life. She had her first quarrel with Rain Pou, who for some reasons wished to continue being a MG. As readers, we understood that it's natural for Rain Pou to wish so, because becoming a MG would rescue her from the hellish home life, but Postarie didn't know that. And so she thought Kaori was crazy.

But no matter how crazy Kaori was, Tatsuko could not leave her. Her friendship with Kaori was a binding curse. Since Tatsuko had worked so hard towards being a loner, she's an unusually negative MG.

Her desire to not lose her precious froend, Kaori, was very endearing. It's so cute to see a reluctant MG who only kept being one for the sake of her friend. And for that, Postarie is definitely worthy of being a MG.

However, the fact that she had to kill Ripple because she didn't want to lose that important friend... It's... It's really hard to accept when I read it... No matter how many times I read it... But I do understand her feelings. Rain Pou was very important to Postarie, and she could not allow her life to be endangered. She would kill the ninja to keep Kaori safe. Yes.

Postarie clearly cared for Rain Pou very much, to the point that she attacked the ninja, who she knew was probably on the justice side. I was hopeful that the target of Postarie's affection, Rain Pou, would understand why she killed that ninja. Because these two genuinely cared for each other. It was mutual.

But the hard truth is, they didn't know the depth of each other's feelings.

When Rain Pou asked why Postarie saved her, Posterie told her simply "Because we're friends."

Ever since they met, Kaori hadn't felt that Tatsuko let her come too close, so she wasn't aware just how dear Tatsuko held her. And thus the meaning behind Tatsuko's simple answer didn't reach Kaori. When she heard it, she thought "I don't really understand, but is this girl stupid or something?" and accepted it as such.

The only saving grace from this miscommunication was that, in the depths of her inner thoughts, Rain Pou was happy. She was happy Postarie chose to be with her.

As mentioned above, Postarie is a very observant child. By logic, she should have realized Rain Pou was a veteran MG sooner. That would have given them both a chance to become closer and understand each other. Too bad Rain Pou was a genius actor, and so it wasn't easy for Postarie to read her. Besides, Postarie chided herself for "scaring herself with unlikely imagination" and kept her eyes off of Rain Pou. It's like the universe gave these two a middle finger when it comes to timing and understanding each other.

The beautiful thing is that, even though they didn't know each other's background, even though they misunderstood each other, even though they thought their affection for each other was one-sided,... they still reached out for each other. Rain Pou and Postarie clumsily built up their bond, and they would have understand each other, if only they had more time.

Yes, if only they had more time. It is impossible now. They can no longer talk to each other anymore. A missing future.

I always draw random numbers to choose the MG to write about. So it's completely coincidence that Rain right after Post, just like Bell right after Laz before. What is this destiny... It's mind-numbing for two wonderful couples to stick to their girl.

Writing RainPost hurt me for two days straight. I'll do my best. I was barely able to get through LazBell, but nearly gave up on RainPost. How backwards.

Rain Pou. An assassin MG who was in first year of middle school. She was found and raised two years ago by Toko, who kept her existence a secret from the Human Resources Department. Rain Pou is a dangerous girl who carried out shady contracts and eventually became the target of mouth-sealing after Pfle rose through the ranks in the HRD.

I have a lot to say about Rain Pou, but first of all, I want to mention that she's a very pitiful child.

Her life had been terrible from the beginning. Ninotsugi Kaori had no parents, and was the subject of constant abuse by her only family, the older sister. A hellish life that she had no way to escape from. It honed her "conceal true self from everyone else" ability, fully demonstrated throughout her MG career. A tremendous skill that could fool even the infamous Maou Pam, who believed her to be just an innocent 13 year-old.

Rain Pou might have been able to hid herself so well exactly because she's dealing with Maou Pam, an overwhelmingly strong existence who she couldn't go against, nor escape from... just like her older sister back then.

After that kind of life, I'm glad that Toko made her a MG and Rain Pou was released from the days of frightening abuses.

Isn't it cruel? Toko hadn't quite created the ideal MG she had always wanted. "The MG who trusts no one." Toko thought that she was getting closer and closer to that dream in the form of Rain Pou, but she was wrong. Rain Pou had come to trust and love her.

This humanity was supposed to be a good thing, yet it was ironically what brought Rain Pou to her demise. And that concluded my point on Rain Pou and Toko. Next is Rain Pou and Postarie.

Postarie, the MG who was incapable of killing. She never wanted to hurt anyone. Because of her painfully timid nature, she was never even certain that her feelings for Rain Pou was reprociated. That's the same girl who didn't want to lose her friend even if she had to kill someone. To Postarie, Rain Pou is irreplaceable. It didn't matter even if it's not mutual. It didn't matter that the ninja MG was the good guy and Rain Pou was the bad one.

The friendship and love that Ninotsugi Kaori felt for Sakaki Tatsuko were special. Kaori has mastered the "concealing true self" way of living. Tatsuko has mastered the "see people, observe them, hide from them" way of living. It took a lot of time for them to just get acquaintanced with each other... and yet they didn't make it in time. They were still in the early stages of getting to know each other. The future had been robbed from them, as the brainwashed Rain Pou said in her monologue "...But it's all over now."

The drama CD let us dream. Only in Dreamland, we could imagine RainPost escape from everything and be together.

My favorite line of Rain Pou. Not counting "...But, everything is over now," I think it would be:
>"I'll kill. That's all. The one who just escaped too. I'll kill."
It's nice. It expressed her professional sense perfectly. Rain Pou is a veteran MG after all, despite her young age. I really like these kinds of professional dialogue. I really wish she could have had a longer relationship with Postarie, I can't get over it.

Magical Daisy Seems to be the MC so she'll be a survivor.
Yumenoshima Genopsycho Her ability seems pretty broken so she'll probably be one of the first to die to hype up another character.

Nokko-chan Not really sure on this one, I'll go with her being a survivor as well.
Pechika Probably die around the midway point when shit goes down.

Miyokata Nonako Gets killed off by the 'mid boss'.
Rionetta Gets killed off by who the narration makes you think is the 'culprit'.

Shadow Gale She's a lackey of Pfle.
Pfle She's the true mastermind behind this game who transforms with Shadow Gale's help to a mecha being the final boss and the last to die.

People share interesting things about a character in order to have fun discussing them with fellow fans, not to antagonize him. We want to know more about the girls. We don't give a shit about your e-peen.

Everyone has been saying that we appreciate TL-kun for bringing this series to our attention. The western fanbase was single-handedly started by him. That's never going to change. Why do you think this series isn't that popular? Too many good girls die? Too depressing? To hard to comprehend what's going on? Too many villains who people are supposed to sympathize with?

It's genuinely the only series that makes me read the LNs, and I love it like crazy. Such a big all-girl cast, all of whom have drastically different ideals, personalities, and allegiance. They do badass things to obtain their goals. I don't think there'll ever be another series that hit all the spots for me like this again.

Mahoiku reminds me of Touhou a lot, just bloodier. I really have a thing for all-girl cast who have interesting goals in life and aren't afraid of bashing each other's head for it.

Because everyone passes it off as a Madoka clone. Some don't get much further than calling it edgy and the main character boring. I will say I only picked it up because the later arcs dropped the death games, which I think always feel a little contrived. What I really like about them is that death feels realistic. It's just a consequence of people this strong in these positions working with high stakes. A lot of series don't have the guts to kill off interesting or fan favorite characters when they really have no business surviving. Not that that's fundamentally wrong, but this take is refreshing.

The nature of it is bound to be divisive, but it's really compelling once it gets going. The powers and fights are well thought out, the characters sometimes come with more grounded stories you rarely see in anime, and there's always multiple layers to the narrative. I'd like to think that if by some miracle Restart gets adapted it'd pique people's interest more, but then they'd call it a SAO clone.
