Still haven't seen a trailer for this that has made me WANT to see it.

It's the same thing Hollywood always does though. They aren't making it for /a/ or anyone who has watched the original; they might "claim" they are, but it's all about the money.

I'm going to rip on the Starwars EP 7 for a second, because I think it's a perfect example of what is happening with GitS. SW EP 7 was not made for people who grew up with the original movies, it's not even for the people who were kids when the prequels came out. It's not for the people who enjoyed the extended universe, read the books, read the comics, played the games etc. You're too old now & everyone knows if you want to make real money you have to think about the future.

Hollywood is going to play to your nostalgia. They are going to waggle something familiar in your face and be like, "Hey, remember how much you enjoyed this? Well, here it is... EXACTLY how you remember." You'll go see it, maybe you'll enjoy it... but it will feel hollow. WHY? Because you've already seen it, even though this one is new, you've already seen it... but guess what? The little 10 year old shit sitting next to you hasn't and now he wants all the toys & other merchandise.

So not only have they milked you for your nostalgia dollars, they've now made fans out of the new generation and will milk money out of them and their parents until they get older and the cycle repeats.

Not to mention with how with culture works now, a lot of people will just see things out of obligation. Even if you have a problem with the Star Wars movies; it's fucking Star Wars, everyone loves Star Wars, you HAVE to go and see it.

GitS is a bit obscure, but even non-anime fans have heard of it. And that alone will probably get a lot of people out to the theaters.

2.5 million for 13 episodes is the standard price for years. Any superior quality is usually due to better organisation and hired talent.

The only time you get more expensive is when you do OVAs or back with GitS SAC, where they both cost twice as much and only made 2 episodes a month. GitS SAC was in the golden age and no one is willing to be this generous any more.
