Because VVV just didn't give a shit, It didn't want to follow the generic mecha recipe and did what it wanted which is why it's one of the most entertaining in the last 5 years.

People will go oh yeah the rape scene but it had more than that which made it stood out, Also L-Elf being a fucking god tier character.

I know you're being sarcastic, but with the exception of SEED none of those shows were trying to be particularly realistic and aimed for over-the-top writing. They're still better than Victory Gundam and ZZ though.
