It was literally a massive fuck up and one of the biggest wastes of money and time I can recall in anime history. How you get approved for another season and think that it's a good idea to spend 75% of that time repeating the same episode over and over is beyond me.

Not really, you don't understand why it was made.

They had a contract to do 12 episodes but during production the decision to make a movie was made. They had to fill the episodes with something so E8 was made. It sucked but the decision lead to a 10/10 movie that made them a lot of money.

Weren't anime BDs like 50 bucks each and had 2 episodes on them? Did anyone actually buy the endless 8? How were season 2 sales?
