At the bottom you can see average sales, total sum of sales averages per series, and total sum gross. You can see that every one of this numbers is bigger for KyoAni despite being fewer shows. Also look at all the companies involved (read: that get a a part of the money) in making Dogakobo's anime vs KyoAni's anime.

That is my understanding of it, yes. Of course, some of these lists aren't complete (Phantom World's doesn't list the committee, Amagi's doesn't mention who did the inbetweens, etc) but even after adding those companies they'd still be ridiculously short compared to Dogakobo's (and not just them). Those lists in the first image I posted seem pretty complete, and they're still half of DK's length.
