I guess your thread subject is technically correct. He didn't shit on it. He just gave a completely neutral statement about it.
>>
>The director said, "Yeah, that's right. I won't do it, but [the film] goes just like I thought."
>>
>>152873916
not much of a comment
I wonder what they thought of his children who chase lost voices film, that was more in ghibli territory than your name is
>>
>>152874249
he used radwimps so it wouldn't get compared to ghibli movies.
>>
>>152874281
I don't really see any comparisons to ghibli they say "trapped another world" but that's not really the case and it's all pretty grounded in reality for the most part
>>
>>152873916
>that guy like my films, see? So it's natural that it will eventually surpass my works
Jesus, old man. Get off your high horse.

Nice yaraon comments.
>>
I think Miyazaki not saying anything says a lot about the film. If the film was really shit, Miyazaki would have commented on it long ago.

Your Name is only popular cause the high budget animation and weebs/neets that vicariously live through the story because they are lonely. Also its been out for months. Prove me wrong /a/
>>
>Anime was a mistake until I saw Your Name.
What did Miyazaki mean by this?

Your Name finds a way into Miyazaki's heart.
>>
So this is you're standard body switching story right? Why is it making so much cash?
>>
>>152873916
So basically he liked it but he's too proud to admit it.
>>
>Regarding the trope of "a girl losing her way in a different world" seen in films like Spirited Away, Suzuki said, "I had a prediction that someone would make that sometime." Miyazaki apparently agreed with Suzuki's sentiment. The director said, "Yeah, that's right. I won't do it, but [the film] goes just like I thought."

>Suzuki also commented, "The term 'another world' is used successfully time and again, and I had a hunch that Makoto Shinkai is a fan of Hayao Miyazaki." The former producer praised Shinkai's film, adding that "It's made so that all the characters in the drama, lines, and music make the background stand out." "The high fall sky that seems like it could be breathed in was especially impressive," he said.

So basically Suzuki liked it, and Miyazaki stubbornly said "It was ok I guess."

Jesus Christ. Is there anything Kimi no na wa can't do? besides Oscars
>kimi no face when #OscarsNotSoYellow
>>
>>152876770
It's actually pretty low budget and they never expected it to do as well as it has
>>
>>152876770
You're wrong.

Why would Kimi no Na Wa have anything to do with the Disney film awards?

He's a bitter anime director with a big ego who's barely ever talked about other anime/manga aside from his own. What do you expect? He's like a little kid.

>>
>>152877052
normies don't read manga, so for them this is original and amazing
>>
so are we just gonna pretend that this awful translation makes any sense?
>>
Dude Miyazaki liked Black Lagoon simply because his protege directed it
>>
>>152876770
>high budget
Shinkai isn't a super big name like Ghibli. His movie got a little lowet than average TOHO movie budget.
>>
>>152878986
That's what Miyazaki is.

His weird fascination with airplanes is proof of that. Come back again, ass-kisser.
>>
>>152876770
>weebs/neets that vicariously live through the story because they are lonely
Sounds like the main reason why anime exists and why high school shit is the most common genre in Japan. Has nothing to do with being a NEET or WEEB. People simply love to watch fiction about love and life, things that most people gave up on EVEN if they are in a relationship. Most marriages are based on settling down with someone, even if that person didnt really match your standards for a very long time. Marriage is about accepting that this might be the best youll get so its just natural to watch films that are about the stuff you actually want, but cant have.

Exactly and that is why stuff like battle harems and isekai stuff are so popular. /a/ thinks its only pandering to the hikikomori otakus and teens mainly but you'd be surprised the type of people that watch, enjoy and spend money on them.
Especially now with the emerging 'salaryman transported to another world' titles.
>>

Am I retarded, or is this paragraph/translation confusing as fuck?

>I had a prediction that someone would make [the trope of "a girl losing her way in a different world" seen in films like Spirited Away] sometime.
They already did, it's Spirited Away.
>The director said, "Yeah, that's right. I won't do it.
You already did, it's Spirited Away.

I feel dumb, but I don't get it.
>>
>>152881338
The visual quality is quite high just because of Shinkai background's touch and the animator crews is almost the best you can get from the industry.
>>
>>152873916
He's smugly assured of his place at the top after Shinkai's failure to even achieve an Oscar nomination. Gotta avoid kicking the dog and all that. That's why he only commented recently.
>>
>>152876770
>only weebs and neets like love stories.

>The Case of Hana & Alice director Shunji Iwai compared the film to Rene Magritte's 1959 painting The Castle of the Pyrenees for its "enduring persuasive power with audacity."
What.
>>
>>152883710
He meant he won't do the kind of Your Name story, but it surely worked.
>>
>>152881338
Ive seen it be referred to as low budget in a bunch of articles but no exact numbers
I wouldn't imagine it was made from even half as much as a typical ghibli movie
>>
>>152883826
We could only guess:
1) the producer said that they can get only 150m yen from garden of words so they expected that they couldn't get more then 10 times of it (1.5 billion) and Your Name was produced with that expectation, so they have to keep the budget low
2)The Wind Rise got around 3 billion yen (almost the highest in anime industry)
3)Average japanese movie budget 300 million yen
>>
desu if Your name had more budget I think it would be even better considering how much content they couldn't use during 100 minutes screen time.
>>
>>152884415
>how much content they couldn't use
everything from the novel is in there, they just weren't completely happy with some of the animation but had to wrap it up because of time/budget
there is a spinoff novel though so maybe we'll get some more stuff included with the BD
>>
>>152876585
I see it as him not publicly criticizing something that has become so immensely popular. If he felt the film was decent, I'm sure he would have given the film some praise by now.
