The individual words are being used appropriately according to their individual definitions, but the actual idea attempting to be conveyed is not true.
This is a ridiculous premise and I was completely unable to follow the logic of why following Archer's path was bad from this exact point on.
If a man's family is in danger and he puts himself in-between the danger and them because he feels they are worth the risk, does that make him inferior to them?
Please tell me how being willing to protect people makes one lose humanity. And also tell me how 'with your humanity gone, there is no reason to value other people'. That is, how does losing something make you not value it any longer? Pic related.

The real issue isn't simply putting yourself in danger to save others. That much could be called noble.

Archer became a hero because he was unable to find meaning in his life beyond being a sword for others to use. He didn't save people because it was noble, or because he truly wanted to in the depths of his heart. He had no value in himself beyond what he could do for other people.

Archer didn't lose his humanity protecting others. He protected others because he had lost his humanity. And when he had been used by the world and discarded by it, that's when he became disillusioned. Not with the idea of being a hero... But with the way he lived his life. Ultimately, that's his real problem.

This parallels Shirou's development as a character through F/SN's three routes. In Fate, he is introduced as a character. In UBW, the flaws with his ideals and character are exposed. And in Heaven's Feel, he resolves these flaws to surpass himself.

There's a difference between protecting your family and loved ones and giving your life to save complete strangers. You're also missing the point. Protecting people is fine, being a good person is fine, Saber is like that. The issue with Shirou is that he gives no value to his own life and puts anyone's well being above his, without thinking that his own life has value to other people and that he has much more worth for humanity as a whole than many people that he would give his life for. Think about it, do you think that's right for Shirou to give his life for Shinji's sake for example? Shinji is a scumbag, egoistical, coward, piece of shit, he's the opposite of Shirou and humanity would be probably better without him, as opposed to being worse without Shirou. Giving his life for Shinji would be objectively wrong as it would do much more harm than good.

There's also the fact that many, many people are not worthy of help and again, helping them out would do more bad than good.
