Edgy shounen era was in the 80s/90s now its all about my nakama and silly adventures.
Only thing I miss are the thick girls. Too many underage bullshit going on in wsj.
Edgy died off because it became so fucking absurd to the point it was laughable.
World's End Harem
All shounen, I can't believe you faggots think shounen manga with gritty shit or too much lewd is a thing of the early nineties and before.
I'm genuinely surprised at Shigurui being published in a shounen magazine. I can certainly understand that artist's other works because it's mostly immature T&A edgy shit starring my chuuni little brother's original character, but Shigurui is very different in tone from Apocalypse Zero. When I think "edgy samurai shounen manga" the first thing that comes to mind is Samurai Deeper Kyo.
>Also champion red has seinen I mean they publish dead tube and that sure as hell aint no shounen.
You can't be this retarded, Champion RED and everything in is Shounen, from Saint Seiya to DEAD Tube, people shouldn't browse /a/ till they what a demographic is and the magazine that a series runs in is what defines what demographic they belong to.
Champion RED Ichigo is the Seinen counterpart to Champion RED.
>Champion red is now both shounen and seinen.
There's no such thing, it was never Seinen, it will never be.
What even goes through your head to think this, how the hell it would ever work.
>Champion RED runs 15 series, half shounen, half seinen, gotta make sure people cut the magazine in half when they sell to people under 16.
> implying this is shounen and sellers will allow u-16 to buy it
Fuck off. If this shounen mods cant ban me
I seriously hope you guys realize that some shounen magazines target people in their late teens and early twenties, for example Monthly Shounen Sirius' demographic is "from ages 16 to 21", which heavily overlaps with seinen magazines aimed at younger adults like Weekly Young Jump.
So you gave up on disputing wheter Champion RED was Shounen or not?
Sure Weekly Shounen Jump and Champion RED's intended age for readership is different, but both are Shounen and a 14 old teenager can buy both of them as the same place no problem.
>Shigurui got moved to Champion RED Ichigo the moment the latter was created. What does that make it?
Late game Seinen?
Like the reverse happened with Yomeiro Choice, the first volume was on Champion RED Ichigo, then remaining 5 volumes ran in regular Champion RED. Seinen to Shounen, but the contents did not change.
Edginess is overrated. Only ones who keep getting excited about it are underage kids.
It was never that good, sure it is losing its momentum, but it still is the same guilty pleasure thing.
The fact it still is running, while all other series the author was writing got finished is proof enough the people who buy it in Japan just wants to see how edgy the edgefest can become.
But the greatest cuck in shounen history is pic related
> I remember his punch breaking the sound barrier being a thing, and Retsu just roflstomping all over it.
You are thinking of Katsumi and Retsu during their maximum tournament bout, during which Katsumi's ''supersonic'' fist is just a tag line.
Later on, during the Hanma Baki/Baki:son of ogre manga, Katsumi does develop an actual supersonic punch to fight against a preserved superhuman caveman named Pickle (yes, this is an actual thing that happens).
If you like the series and haven't read up to that part, I highly recommend you to get on that, since it's just an insane amount of fun.
You are retarded for arguing over what is shonen and what is not, it's just a name splattered by a publisher on a magazine. It's the content that defines the readership and that's the only thing that matters, "target demographic" doesn't mean shit.
You can make a BL magazine and call it "Weekly Shonen Faggot" that doesn't mean school kids will start buying it en masse.
I'm pretty much up to date all the way with the Musashi stuff, I just don't remember Katsumi's arm exploding like that during the Pickle fight. Is this the same arm Pickle ended up eating? It's been years...
The page posted says "Hanma Baki vol 16 end" so I just assumed it was from the original series (which I haven't read).
same (shounen) series; much later chapter
Is this the same arm Pickle ended up eating?
Blame Wild Fang for the series name confusion - these are their real names, and how they go in order:
Baki ("New Grappler")
Hanma Baki ("Son of Ogre")
I hadn't noticed the fingers lying around before.
Man, I love this series.Even though it's filled with over-the-top violence it never actually goes full chuuni edge or have the cast moping around like some emo current-times grimmdark superheroes.
It always mantains a sense of sel-aware fun without actually derolving into parody or dark slapstick humor.
This is the undisputed king of shounen.
>Twice as many volumes
>1.5x the sales
Hokuto ShinKen really is one of the most horrifying ways to murder someone, you could literally poke someone and cause their entire body to slowly rip itself apart after hours and hours of unimaginable pain. By comparison a gunshot would be lovely.
>Brings up sales as if it means anything
>Disproves the point because not even the sales are in your favour
>"Hehe DB fags only care about sales amirite"
