The problem is that FT writing is just slightly above:

-Me evil villain, me strong, me evil but also complex because me was good before me villain
-You die now villain for me good , me hero *puch villain*
-Oh oh oh you punch does nothing, you punch is weak ! Me invicible

Many manga use that scheme/pattern but you have to compare them to see how bad FT is. The short dialogue I just wrote is not far from Mashima work. And the pacing is pretty much the same.

Then again Erza was able to propel herself into the air several kilometers one one arm alone, exert enough force to break a meteorite and somehow land with one functional limb without becoming a pile a of blood and flesh.
