How did Deen do this?
What is their secret?

Ataru, to the right.
Shinobu on the bottom left. Perm in the bottom middle.
>>
If I only intend to do one, do I read the manga or do I watch the anime?
>>
>>152807611
whichever one you prefer
they're both great
>>
>>152804745
I tried to read it after "Otaku no Musume", but dropped after 1st volume. Characters were too "normal" for me, and i find the whole plot with moving on from the dead husband instead of keeping loyalty to him somewhat disgusting.
>>
>>152808215
>Characters were too "normal" for me, and i find the whole plot with moving on from the dead husband instead of keeping loyalty to him somewhat disgusting.

B-bait?
If it helps, she doesn't move on to Godai until almost seven years after her husband's death.
>>
>>152808249
I didn't say it's bad, i just personally don't like the idea. Well, maybe, i extremely don't like the idea.
>until almost seven years after her husband's death
I've heard about it, it only makes things worse. Why would you pretend to be good wife if in the end you still gonna exchange your husband for some other not-so-great man? Poor guy was her personal clown for years, just to give her a chance to play innocent or something? And not to mention that OTHER guy (god, i hope there were only two), to whom she ALSO didn't said strict "no" and kept him for several years.
Sorry, but i can only find all this disgusting. I wish i'd never read it.
>>
>>152808446
Yeah, fair enough. The way she treated Mitaka was really shit. The scene where she turns him down after being ambiguous with her feelings for six years was probably the most painful scene in any anime for me.
>>
>tfw I just finished watching the show a couple of days ago and there's a thread about it.

It was great, the ED was top tier, and seing Godai being treated like this throughout the series triggers me to this day.

I wish there was a mini series entirely on mikata and his dog
>>
>>152808446
Yes, how DARE a woman be open to the idea of a romantic relationship with more than one man in her entire life...
>>
>>152808806
When a man is courting you, you either tell "yes" or "no". The sooner the better - it saves him a lot of time.
>>
>>152808967
Ideally, sure. But in romantic stories - especially a series, and most especially a long-runner - there are complications. People take time to sort out their feelings. And sorting out your feelings with romantic possibilities is no simple thing when the recent death of your husband is a factor.

But hey, if you want a quick, simple yes/no, that's up to you. But a romance series with any kind of complexity beyond "boy meets girl and they immediately get together and stay together" (which is to say, all of them) is not for you.
>>
>>152808446
>>152808493
Kyoko does at least realize she's been an awful person and asks for forgiveness about her indecisiveness to both Mitaka and Godai. It doesn't excuse her completely, but it's not like she was ever presented as a flawless character.
>>
>>152808446

I'm with this guy.
>>
it's shit compared to urusei yatsura though
>>
Say what you want about Kyoko's fickle nature, this manga/show has some of the most genuine, believable romance you'll see in the medium.

Modern anime doesn't even come close, especially modern SoLs.
>>
>>152810239
For kids and spics like yourself, sure.
>>
This garbage is overrated as fuck because

>old anime
>90+ episodes so it gives the watcher a stockholm syndrome effect

Could like cut the series into half and would actually be better.
>>
>>152810380
That's one way of admitting you're a complete idiot.
>>
>>152810423

Nice argument TakaRumi-fag. I bet Inuyasha is your favorite shonen.
>>
>>152807013
>best at comedies
Not really. Actually she's fucking awful at comedy and that she actually influence anime with her shit taste was a fucking travesty. If I had a gun and a time machine I'd rather off her than go kill Hitler.
>>
>>152808967
>When a man is courting you, you either tell "yes" or "no". The sooner the better - it saves him a lot of time.
No you don't. The sooner you do it the less you know the person and have a chance or making a mistake.
>>
>>152810464
What's there to argue? You just labeled the show garbage, citing "i-it shouldnt have been that long!", because it's all an idiot like you is capable of.
>>
>>152810703
I agree up to a point, but six years is way beyond that point.

Though at the same time, Mitaka should have bowed out and realized "Fuck this, I'm wasting my time" long before he did and dated one of the countless cute girls who actually were interested in being with him.
>>
>>152804871
Honestly the only Rumiko manga that I don't consider to be dragged out, some characters do show visible growth as the manga goes, Godai really matures as any normal person could.
>>
>>152804871
The anime had too much fillers, but to this day it's still one of the best SOL I've ever seen.
>>
I never seen it but i have it on my HDD

is it a cockbait show where they flirt for 100 episodes and then do nothing? or is it like a real romance thing?
>>
>>152811361
It's mostly cockbait for the first 85-ish episodes, but gets past that during the last 10. It's the furthest thing possible from an open, ambiguous end.
>>
This and NHK are the best. Everything else is shit compared to it.
>>
>>152811517
oh and tatami galaxy
>>
>>152804745
It's simply a masterpiece, high quality animation, beautiful art, amazing OST, great characters, nice humor, mature plot, amazing ending. A cult.
>>
>>152811361
Just read the manga, and then go for the anime for the old school voice actors and the soundrack.
>>
>>152807363
>>152807436
I don't have the screenshot on hand right now, but I love how Rumiko's anime adaptation still do this. There was a classroom scene in Rinne S1 that had shinigami versions of Mousse and Ukyo.
>>
>>152811580
And it's also family oriented. I mean, whole families watched it and loved it in Italy in the 80s.
>>
>>152811820
>And it's also family oriented.
Huh? Maybe it does have appeal for the whole familes, but isn't family oriented.

Maison Ikkoku is the only work of hers aimed at young male adults, it's her only big work published in a Seinen magazine, Godai's struggles are that of the intended readership, no other Rumiko protagonist was like Godai.
>>
>>152810466
>>152810466
Hitler had a GOAT sense of humor.
>>
>>152810466
Of course, why would you kill Hitler. He did nothing wrong.
>>
>>152811361
It's a really slow burn/dragged out but it's worth it. You know exactly how it's going to end but the characters are great.
>>
>>152811883
I know which is its main target, I meant it is easily liked by everyone. I watched it with all my family.
>>
>>152811883
It's family friendly in that anyone could conceivably watch and enjoy it.
>>
>>152812001
>You know exactly how it's going to end but the characters are great.
It's a Rumiko work, one will expect the Main Girl and the Main Guy to confirm each other feelings after much padding, not full blown sex and then show their baby at the end.
>>
>>152811820
>>152811883
>>152812009
>>152812017
>Yotsuya's masturbation joke to Godai about Kyoko early on
Although I can't remember if the anime toned it down.

Also, hi, Italybro.
>>
>>152812077
Kozue a cute.
>>
>>152812001
>You know exactly how it's going to end but the characters are great.
Did you expect Ranma and Akane, Ataru and Lum, InuYasha and Kagome and whoever else I'm forgetting to have akward sex where the guy can't get up due being crushed by his perception of her deceased husband, but then she conforts him and then they have heart warming sex, and in the epilogue they have a cute baby?
>>
>>152812070
It was implied, but it is nothing so explicit. The whole series is still suitable for anyone. I was 7-8 the first time I watch3d it. Plus, during the 80s in Italy tv was full of every kind of show, it's not like now
>>
>>152812243
I mean, whole families watched Drive in...Maison Ikkoku was so innocent compared to some Italian shows.
>>
>>152812077
I would have chose Kozue over Kyoko if i was Godai. I like Kyoko but Kozue was just too perfect for this world

>>
>>152812417
Even restricting yourself to those two, one wouldn't really expect the series to reach that point, no instance of physical intimacy was shown to that point and then it just happens.
>>
>>152812165
>>152812354
>shitters missing the urusei yatsura reference
>>
Does /a/ like Kyoko Otonashi?
>>
>>152812687
Honestly not really, to me she was just Godai's end goal, her personal struggles didn't really strike me, I gotta accept some of her detractors' reasoning a little, 6 years is whole lot of time to really come into terms on who she really likes, especially with not really firmly refusing their advances; 2 to 3 years would be more grounded in my opinion
>>
>godai was meant to lose his virginity to kozue
>the editors were upset with that, and demanded takahashi change it so he loses it to kyoko
Why are editors such idiots?
>>
Childhood is when you idolize Love Hina
Adulthood is when you realize Maison Ikkoku makes more sense
>>
>>152812559
Kozue's fault, I wouldn't have if she wasn't in the screenshot.
>>
>>152812492

They had an accidental kiss once.>>152813296
>>

Kyoko was really unbearable for the last 10-15 episodes.

>>
>>152812687
Yes but Kozue was better
>>
>>152813393

>>
>>152812687
Yeah, she's a sweetie.

Pig Ryoga appeared a couple of times too, and near the ending of season 1 there was a Panda distributing fliers who resembled Genma's panda form rather than the usual Panda shinigami.

>lumping rom com with SoL
I wish I can discuss similarly vintaged shows with smarter people, or any fan that isn't a proud asshat.
>>
>>152814159
It's not a romcom, retard. Being very light hearted and upbeat doesn't mean romcom.
>>
>>152814535
But it focuses on the progression of the protagonist's romantic relationship. That means it's a romcom, not slice of life.
>>
>>152814740
What do you think the com in romcom stands for, retard?

Cry over the semantics of SoL at your leisure, but it's still not a romcom.

>>152811361
The anime is a bit like that, things get implied heavily throughout the series but nothing is shown to happen between them for a long long time, though as I said before the implications are heavy and you would have to be a fool to miss it. The manga is less of a cocktease and it actually shows the things that get implied in the anime. Manga or the anime you can't go wrong either way.
>>
>>152812070
The anime toned down a lot of things. Didn't really take away from the enjoyability of the show, though rarely the cockteasing and naiviness of some scenes got a little ridiculous.
