You are 100% right. And honestly, if I wasn't so invested in my own identity and ego I would be more open to the idea of "paradise" in this context except for the whole dying part. It's one of the reasons I have a hard time grappling with the afterlife I was raised to believe in. Being conscious, but not having any desires and only singing the praises of my God sounds so boring and I can't see myself being happy with that. I'd rather go and experience all the things in life I missed out on (books, movies, video games) or fuck off and experience all of existence from the beginning as some disembodied entity.
Ironically enough, despite the uncertainty of life I would rather have what I have now in spite of all the problems I have and all the hardships I have endured. I'm a quarter of a century old, my country's cost of education is so high that I'll be saddled with debt for years. I didn't even finish the degree because I got so depressed I gave up and am just now trying to finish after years out of school. And I work a job that is fine, but I'm just making ends meet and I'm kind of living month to month. But despite all this, I still have this almost perverse attachment to the life I have been given. I only have one and I still have the chance to make things better. That hope is more important to me that the idea of guarenteed happiness because I can't really grasp a "perfect" world or one with a singular drive [/blog]
Under the system of solomon there are people who will never get a break. Never succeed on a grand scale. And whose lives may amount to dying painfully and young because of the actions of people they will never meet. The corrupt keep themselves in power and the populus lose more and more rights and freedoms as technology and culture progress and change. When Solomon first created the new system. It was in response to a structure that didn't favor anyone because all existence was food for God. And the world was on the brink of ruin with no chance of survival. He made his system because of the enslavement that he had witnessed, and the inequality that persisted because of differences.
His new system allowed for the same thing to happen again except the differences became cultural instead of strictly racial. (I really need to go back and re-read Alma Torran). What Sinbad is doing now is trying to make a new world in response to the current systems problems, and colored by his life and philosophies. He wants an adventure, something to always keep on the horizon to aspire too. Punching down every god and powerful being isn't his end goal, just a step on the road.
The real question here is whether or not he should be allowed to take everyone with him? Should he be able to kill every living person in order to fuel this ascension? Because Solomon ultimately did get consent, Sinbad removed that option when he started fucking with the Ruhk. You could argue that Solomon got easy consent because the world was literally falling apart but I think most people genuinely wanted a more balanced world.

Technically no since Rukh is not only the building block of reality, but it functions as the karmic system for life. The identity of people are attached to the Rukh that makes them up and upon their passing that form is recycled.

Maybe yes? Self can most definitely exist even if that self can be altered by altering the rukh. I don't know if you are talking about a specific psychological model of Self, but you most definitely see characters that possess identity and individuality.
Does the fact that "self" can be made mutable dismiss it from every existing or does it just mean that "self" in magi is a somewhat fragile construct?
Free will on the other hand is hard to pin down because by default, everyone in Magi is either black rukh or white rukh. The former is informed by a lovecraftian diety that wishes for all things to be consumed by it and manifests in the current world when someone wants to go against fate...the fate created by the later rukh. White Rukh carries the will of the architect which can change depending on who is sitting in the cockpit. So really, everyone is marching to the rhythm of whoever has the baton. I think however, there are more agreeable terms under which to live.
I don't know if Free will can be said to exist in Magi but I would argue that under Solomon, more chances to define "free will" existed than under any other.
