Now that you ask, it is pretty awesome that a poster can show what is essentially the climax of a movie without giving any coherent indication as to what youre in for, while still looking cool as fuck.

I watched the 26 eps and the movie because I wanted to see how in the fuck you could go from giant androids fighting monsters to some chick's head floating in a red sea. Maybe that was the idea all along, but who knows.

This is why I kind of love it. It's a completely literal scene, but nothing in the series prior informs how it's possible, so it's like surrealist art of the type that's pretty conventional for box art coming true.

Exactly. It's only during the final act of EoE that you see a giant white Rei ascending into the atmosphere and then it occurs to you, "oh shit, this is where the giant head must come from". But even then you're wondering how the hell the head came off of the body.

Giving Eva's themes, scene's context and Rei and Kaworu's words, they try to get along. But in truth you don't need to know. Message is delivered, those characters don't exist as doesn't story after the end. So what happens next is actually your own life with your own decisions that you will make remembering Eva's eternal and beautiful message
