It isn't. Everyone just spedread or hopped the hatewagon, and typically people have a hard time picking up on and appreciating character subtleties unless they're accompanied by wacky quirks and/or meme dialogue like with Joseph or Josuk8.

Arguably one of the best parts that isn't 7 or 8, I'd put it right next to 6. I believe 6 and 5 have their own unique problems but they're great in their own ways and fill each other out about equally.

It's more that part 5's pages can be an ungodly clusterfuck, and it's not always easy to tell what exactly is going on. I think the first examples of that are shown in the soft machine chapter.
It'll probably have the best anime adaptation of the lot.

You're confining your definition of antagonist to a very limited and archetypal scope, expecting something like Dio or Cars to be embodiments of bad who only exist in the story to actively present the hero with struggle.

The whole point of Part 4 and being entirely limited to Morioh's suburbia (especially right after the 'cross-the-world adventure of Part 3) was because this was supposed to stand out from typical. Josuke didn't get so much screen time as earlier Jojo's (and didn't even beat Kira himself), and was often dicking around town with Okoyasu like a normal person in a normal life, not exactly going on an adventure as the champion of good.

Likewise, Kira was the nonstereotypical villian. He was on principle bad, but he didn't serve the role of antagonist who "gets shit done". In many ways Kira got so much screen time just to develop him as a character rather than to provide challenge and justification for main characters (unlike Dio in parts 1 and 3, who was ALWAYS presented for the purpose of accomplishing something for protagonists' sake).

In other words, Kira was given the treatment of a protagonist except with a psychological disorder, fleshing out his character, making him like-able, showing him having his own unique struggles (in his case getting away with murder, but he's still oddly presented sympathetically). Take the chapters/episodes where Shigechi steals his sandwich and he's trying to get it back - Josuke and crew were treated as side characters, and Kira got a sympathetic struggle of not getting caught for almost its entirety. Araki could have skipped this and murdered Shigechi without all this Kira screentime, but he didn't because that wasn't the point.

In other words stop having a different opinion than me.

Part 5 has the exclusive distinction of having both the worst Jojo AND the worst antagonist. Everyone is wearing these awful 90s fashionista outfits. It takes all that to take Kira down without any additional casualties, which is a big part of part 4. In the other parts, the heroes would gladly sacrifice their lives just for a chance at killing the big bad and put everything on the line for it, but in 4 they're a bunch of schoolchildren with their own lives and interests that often come before catching him. It's less a reflection on Kira's power and more a reflection on part 4's themes of unity and teamwork prevailing.

I honestly don't get the appeal of Giorno. I like part 5, but the guy has zero "presence." Bruno felt like he was the real main character. Giorno was basically just there to use his incredibly ill-defined powers to defeat any opponents that Bruno or Mista couldn't defeat.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed both, but when I compare 6 and 7 I find 7 extremely lacking in certain aspects whereas I found few faults with 6 as a whole. The only thing that bothers me with 6 is Hermes as a character and certain aspects of the end. Meanwhile, Part 7 has so much that bothers me it's ridiculous. I really tried to give Giorno a chance but I'm going to have to agree with this.

There are a couple of things with potential about him - his ability to read people incredibly accurately (which is largely dropped after he uses it on Buccellati) his ambition, his mischievous but polite demeanor, but ultimately most of these just end up getting pushed to the side.

From the moment Giorno joins the gang, he becomes near-silent other than when he's going to whip a magic solution out of his ass. And to do this, more often than not the other characters are temporarily written to be useless idiots who'd die without him. Look at the start of The Grateful Dead - Fugo (with his 140 IQ) and Abbacchio (who figured out the mystery of soft-machine and actively turned Illuso's mirror-powers against him while Giorno was still thinking) are both asleep, and Buccellati and Mista are left acting like bumbling morons so that Giorno can immediately and flawlessly identify it's body-temperature that caused it. (Even then he'd be laughably wrong, women generally have a slightly HIGHER body-temp than men, 97.8 °F vs. 97.4 °F which is still pretty negligible)

I had no idea why people kept clamoring on about Bruno being the true JoJo or something. Mista? MAYBE, he had a whole arc that was a flashback in addition to a fairly large amount of fights.

Giorno got around 5 fights where he was a major participant, and even the team fights he played a strong enough role in the sidelines or did at least one thing of relative importance (Talking Heads, White Album, Notorious B.I.G.)

Bruno DID get a fair amount of screentime but a good portion of that was shared with Gio or involved Gio in some way (Giorno saving him from King Crimson and later reviving him, Giorno noticing Bruno's strange behavior and trying to figure out whether he should tell the team or not, getting the arrow and heading off to fight Diavolo), and he had a fair amount of good moments in my opinion (his reaction to Narancia's death, talking about what he believes resolve is, his just dream, etc).

Giorno has no interest in getting to know or befriending his companions in a part that's based heavily on character-interactions. On the few occasions of downtime where they aren't fighting for their lives, Giorno actively sits on the sidelines as the others socialize. Buccellati pulls off the 'leader-type who doesn't do smalltalk' a LOT better than Giorno, and when he does it it doesn't seem like he doesn't care, whereas Giorno's grief over the deaths of Abbacchio and Narancia seemed like it came out of the blue because they'd barely interacted.

Not to mention how obnoxious and forced a lot of Giorno's supposed characterization is - in a part which constantly involves the heroes bending over backwards for others and letting themselves be hurt and killed for their mission, whenever Giorno does something (even if he wasn't fucking there at all, like how he spent the Spice Girl fight unconscious) he gets his dick sucked by the other characters who have to gush about how amazing and smart he is, even though his actions aren't any more impressive than their own.

Giorno isn't horrible, either - he's just average. But being average in a part full of more compelling and likable characters than the main is pretty bad.

Part 3 Jotaro is a character who chooses to be in the background. Giorno is a character who fades into the background. There's a big difference.

Jotaro is a seventeen-year-old boy who does and says a lot of weird things in active bids to be cool, which is an endearing character-trait in itself. When a jeep he's riding in gets fucking flipped over, he hangs on with one hand and the other in his pocket. When his prized school-uniform is damaged, he has another one made out of sheep wool in the fucking desert. When he's in life or death situations, he always has time to think up and spit out stupid one-liners that he genuinely thinks are witty.

Although he doesn't talk much, his character-development is still pretty clear to see. In the start of the part he's a surly loner who doesn't show any real affection for anyone. By the end of it he's become someone who truly treasures his friends, comforting Polnareff after he fucks up with a girl, respecting Joseph in spite of constantly being pestered by him, and mourning the deaths of his fallen friends while still celebrating their victory. He also has that silent but important scene with N'doul where he freaks out over his suicide, but honors his sacrifice by burying him and paying his respects. He's not the same disrespectful asshole as he was at the start, at least not to those who don't deserve it.

Outside of the fights and the lack of exposure with some of the characters, I wouldn't say Part 6 is the most flawed. Jolyne, Annasui, and Weather Report are pretty great, the plot was relatively engaging (love the last quarter), and I fucking love Pucci. How come Doppio's Doppioness never had any influence on Diavolo?

Ive read the entirety of Jojo 4 times and the only part post Hamon that i absolutely dread reading is part 6.

It is by far the worst part in the series, boring bad fights, uninteresting characters for the most part and just downright shitty pacing. It brings nothing good to the series aside from Pucci and then the ending is just there. Thank God Araki made it so as soon as i finish 6 i get to enjoy 7 and 8.

I just recently finished Steel Ball Run and I was pretty let down by Funny Valentine. Whenever someone talks about him they talk about how he's great because his motivation is great, and he's arguably more just than the protagonist. And while those can both be really interesting things for a villian to have (and they were when it was expanded on in Steel Ball Run), he felt pretty boring besides that. The only thing he did that felt unique to him was the "dojyaaa~n", and that kind of felt out of character

Still don't get all the hate for Caesar, he was fun. It was nice to have a character not being astounded by Joseph and still be painted as fairly sympathetic, helped get rid of the sueish feel I was getting around the time he appeared.

You want some reasons ? I'll give you some.

Part 2 has the absolute worst cast in the series by far, comprised of poorly written and shallow characters who exist for the sole purpose of gawking at Joseph. Caesar, Lisa Lisa, the non-entities Messina and Loggins. Even the characters that are good in concept, like the Pillar Men, are wasted.
It's too short to properly live up to it's epic pulp adventure premise, rushing from place to place without consequence. It's somehow even more rushed than Part 1.
Joseph is a soulless collection of overused catchphrases made to appeal to SJ kiddies, devoid of any character until Part 3 happens. The "le tricked you!!!!" attitude got stale quick and he is only enjoyable as a side character. He stands out because he's always paired with the non-entities that comprise the BT cast.
The asspulls are the worst of the series, being devoid of creativity and ending potentially interesting fights with simple "OOPS I TRICK YU I HAD THIS THING WITH ME ALL ALONG". There's only so many times you can watch Joseph end a fight easily by just pulling a rope or a machinegun out of his ass. It reaches One-Punch Man levels of repetition (and with OPM the entire premise is repetition of a single joke).
Hamon in general was killing Araki's creative potential.
The art style is ugly as sin.
The entire final fight which, fun as it may be, completely squanders an interesting power-up and makes Kars even more of a shitty jobber. And it pales in comparison to everything that came after.

I think it's less genuine hate and more disappointment that he didn't do more. He was presented as a cool-looking and interesting-seeming character, but then all he did was climb a big oily penis with Joseph, sit on his ass jacking off while Joseph fought ACDC, teamed up to finish him off while he was nothing but a fucking brain, vanished without a trace for most of the Switzerland fight, save Joseph from falling off a cliff, throw a tantrum, get a flashback and a fight, and then die, though his part in the Joseph and Wamuu fight was pretty cool.

Are you retarded? It wasnt bogged down by repetitive stand of the week filler. So that makes it automatically better than 3 and 5. The protagonist and setting were great and memorable. That places aspects of it next to 4. It was an over the top bombastic adventure with memorable characters. I swear the hate probably just comes from contrarians who dislike animeonly fans.

I see the point, but considering how short part 2 is I'm not sure there's much he could've done. Should have helped in one of the pillar men fights though, easily could've put him into the fight with esidisi.
