The show was as much about ice skating as it was about Yuri and Victor's relationship (not necessarily romantic but in general). Watching the performances and actually learning about ice skating, especially for those who aren't familiar with the sport at all (ie. most) is one of the selling points of the show.

Yurio was always a tsundere little shit because he's a grumpy teenager, but Yuuri doesn't sink to his level and indulge his petty rivalry. Yuuri's 'rival' is himself, the villain of the series is his own insecurities. But you must be blind if you saw no emotional tension between them, or more likely you dropped it early on and didn't watch the final episodes which were nothing BUT tension for the most part.

YoI is the proof that animation quality is an optional quality for a show.
Just think about all the BEAUTIFULLY animated moeshit shows that were complete flops.
Animation means nothing when it's always the same type of dumb and childish female characters you'll only remember if you could find them somewhat fuckable.
Are the fujos shallow and vain enough to imagine themselves fucking their favorite characters? No. Their approach is much more logical and shows much more respect both for the author and the character. They'll find 'him' someone from his world, and will want him to be happy.
Much more logical too because fujos being females, they know what it means to be on the 'receiving' side. Why do you never see male otakus speak about which one would be the dominant one in a yuri relationship? Because they can't fucking imagine how it would work.
They don't care about their female character's happiness. What they want is to masturbate. That's all.

Fujo shows develops aspects in the male characters, only a female could develop.
Males who draw dumb pedo lolis optionally playing an instrument or sport don't give a single shit about their own characters, it's their fap material they need to find some excuse to animate, and their public is naturally the lowest.
