Okay, I just read chapter 9. I think the fight was slightly better in animation, though, the effects were perhaps overdone for a playfight. I liked the simpler look of the manga effects.

On the other hand I think what was actually worse in animation was how they imitated Kobayashi. It was more snappy and sudden in the manga. Shame about the missing Matrix reference too, but really they don't have fantasy-like powers.
