Yang truly was the best character. After he died, the series went on, and it was good, but you could feel the decline and Yang's absence, plus Julian a shit.

Why is everyone except Yang and Reinhard + his cabinet retarded? Why did the FPA listened to staff officer Fork as if he were some high ranking officer instead of the higher tier admirals? Why does no one do jack shit when Ansbach takes a bazooka our of a corpse? Why is Yang nearly omniscient and knows what the enemy is doing without any signal or evidence? Why is Attenborough so based? And what the fuck was up with Oberstein and the nukes? They were already winning full time in every field, the FPA had theird hands full and the Lipstadt alliance were getting absolutely rekt, there was no need to nor interfere and save westerland to make things quicker since, 1- saving them would still make them look like heroes and 2- they were still going to win anyways.

Because the politicians wanted an offensive, and all the higher ranking officers weren't proposing any plans for an offensive. Because he suited their needs, the politicians chose to elevate Fork over everyone else.

As Oberstein says, they don't have a definitive way to seize the fortress. If the enemy planned to wait out the siege, Reinhard would eventually be at a disadvantage because he had long supply lines. They would have most likely won either way, but the lives lost in the process would be much higher than if they let Westerland be nuked. That was Oberstein's argument.
