Its a pretty generic jrpg story for awhile. It starts to get interesting after all of the main cast is introduced and the plot starts to go somewhere.
But I don't have high hopes for this. A1 could have done a much better job of this pilot than they did. In the game this whole section is covered in about 10 minutes. MC just meets Lyria, Hydra fight, then they steal an airship and fly off. None of the villager stuff or extra exposition. Could have done it all in one episode.

The story is pretty boring because they spent the first two episodes on LITERALLY NOTHING.

For some reason, they decided that the prologue really needed two episodes when it gets like 5 minutes on the game and everything is explained as you go.

Here's some backstory/spoilers. I'll be kind enough to wrap it in spoiler tags too.

Katalina is a former Knight from the empire and she's unsatisfied with the Empire's way of doing things. She's a knight that wants to protect the weak and do the right thing but the Empire is the main antagonist in this arc of the story and she doesn't want to continue working for them like this.

Lyria is a former captive from the empire. She has the ability to control and pacify primal beasts and Katalina was in charge of her because she was a high rank in the empire. Lyria has no memory from before she was captured by the Empire and is the cause why Kat decides to ditch the empire.

Kat visits Lyria in her cell and bit by bit they start knowing each other and trusting each other. Eventually, Kat promises Lyria that she will show her what the sky looks like because the only thing Lyria knows is the insides of her cell and Kat ends up leaving the empire and taking Lyria with her.

In their attempt of escaping, they come across Gran and Vee. Gran tries to protect Lyria from her empire pursuers but dies trying and Lyria revives him with her power but that makes them linked forever so if Lyria ever dies, Gran will die too and viceversa. In the original story, they don't stick around and fight their pursuers but escape in an airship to another island. The airship crashes and burns at Port Breeze and that's where the story actually starts/begins. For reference, the starting island where Gran gets killed is called Zinkenstill.


The story at the start is pretty meh because it was written/made years ago when the game was still new but the most recent episodes, events and stories have improved tons and got really nice so if they stick to the story then the anime should see a nice boost in quality to the story as it goes.

I had a difficult time watching the MC just throw everything with such a genuine attitude for some stranger he met, and it's not even his dick talking for him because it's a flat-chested kid.

It's pretty generic/typical RPG plot out of Japan, but the problem I felt was that it felt so horribly fake (combination of the slow pacing, voices, and script).
