I've been really depressed the past year and stopped watching anime altogether(used to watch like 15 shows a season).

This is the show I came back to, I saw a screencap on another board by accident, I completely forgot it was being made and just downloaded the first episode. I loved the manga, but I completely forgot or never knew that it was going to be made by KyoAni, so the first minute or so of the episode when I slowly figured out the studio was like a late christmas for me.

It's to make sure later scenes match the early episodes. Tohru's character took a while to finalise, and after the other dragons show up Tohru became nicer. Especially after a few flashbacks.

Man, I've been out of the anime game for years, since the early-mid 2000's, FLCL specifically. I dipped my toes back in for Kill la Kill, but I was sure that was a rare return.

Yep. There's a lot more of Kobayashi's internal thoughts about things and the style lends itself well to the whole psychological angle. I think the anime conveys that as well as it can but the manga is definitely worth reading for that slightly different atmosphere. I'd hold out until after the anime since it doesn't have a lot of potential for watching after reading but the other way around is fine since you can go at your own pace.
