Minako is an idiot. But unlike Usagi, it's not because she's innately stupid, but rather because she doesn't give a shit. She can be remarkably quick-witted when she actually cares. That's why she's the leader of the Inners. Because protecting Usagi is one of the things she cares about enough to apply herself mentally as well as physically, rather than just the latter.

Yes.

Sailor Moon is a totally different beast and can't really be compared to CardCaptor Sakura. Even their use of mahou shoujo is totally different. Sailor Moon is more of a parody of Sentai. While CardCaptor Sakura is a throwback to the traditional majou shoujo of the 60s and 70s.

If I had a gun to my head, I'd say CCS is my favorite. But that has to do with its smaller episode count, the flow of the series, the bigger serialized format and etc. Pretty much every element of CCS interests me. While I love Sailor Moon for the reaction shots, character development and and slice of life. And the combat and love story aren't that interesting to me.

Where? The Manga maybe because she's Sailor V and came first. But I've been rewatching the anime and never saw her get declared the leader, either symbolically or out loud. Everyone always says Usagi is the leader out loud, while Rei acts like the leader (and is always last to die to give Sailor Moon that necessary pep talk).

Even the one episode where they disguise Minako as Usagi, people are mocking her.

But in that same arc, once again Rei is the last to die and gives Sailor Moon a pep talk about how she is the only one who can save them, she's the leader, blah blah blah.

Also, if we don't even hear that Minako is the leader until 160 episodes into the show, that's pretty weak.

That's a sign of Rei being Usagi's best friend, which she is, not Mars being the leader.

I'm not saying it makes sense. Unlike the manga, it makes a lot more sense for Mars to be the leader in the anime than Minako. And if it weren't for that scene with Pluto, that's what I'd assume to be the case.

Usagi is the princess, not the leader. A comparison I've seen made is it's the difference between the President and a five star general. The only question is whether that "general" is Mars or Venus. In the manga, the answer is definitely Venus. However, in the anime it's unclear, most signs point to Mars, but the statement from Pluto, as well as some stuff from late season 1, and sporadically thereafter, presents a case for Venus.

When she's Sailor Moon, she is considered the 'leader'. It doesn't make much sense I agree. But they make a clear distinction between Sailor Moon (the sentai warrior) and when she turns into Serenity (a princess who suddenly can't fight at all and just uses the power of the silver crystal to overwhelm her enemies with love).
