The true events are significantly darker, for one. From what we know - and have seen in flashbacks - Priest Kaiba actually mounts a coup, fueled entirely by a "Fuck you, Pharaoh!" at the worst possible moment. (You can see them fighting in the Kaiba versus Yugi duel.)

Basically everyone and everything was fucked until the Pharaoh forced a stalemate by using the Millenium Puzzle. This means that he outright killed Kaiba and THEN had to fight Zorc. (Remember, the landscape's an apocalyptic mess at the time of the Priest Kaiba versus Pharaoh duel.)

In fact, Thief Bakura probably wasn't remotely important or even an actual character. The true story is how one stupid asshole got corrupted by greed, envy and the promise of power then fucked everyone forever.

They do start setting monsters after Lv10 difficulty though it's still easy to steamroll them. Equip spells on beatsticks to steamroll is pretty accurate to the old school playstyle for better or worse. We have a good number of 1500-1700ATK monsters right now but the lack of 2000DEF monsters and basic destruction like Trap Hole and Man Eater Bug is a little jarring

It means nothing. There are multiple copies of DMG just like how there are more than 1 copy of BEWD ( even though there's only 1 Kisara) since in the end, they're just card games. The difference is that people like Atem/Kaiba are tied to the history of the Items and stuff, so they have a special connection to them. To all the other players who didn't have that ancient Egyptian past, they're just cards.

This could probably the inspiration behind Danzo in Naruto. Danzo was the shadow/root, Hiruzen was the leaf/sun, one doing the dirty work, the other keeping the image of the village.
