Well that's because Toei was responsible for this mess. If you think Toriyama had any part in Toei's shit your sadly mistaken. Toriyama does work with Toyo the manga artist, and it's why the quality of the manga is better. Granted it's not perfect, but its far more coherent and the execution feels more professional ly executed. Goku is also not dumb in that so that is also a big plus
Besides that anon you should stay to see the new arc if dragomball super. Now toei'll have to follow Toriyama/Toyo's storyboards, we should be due for a dramatic increase in quality

He had a part in it. Just like how not voting is still casting a vote, Toriyama's refusal to keep an eye on Toei is still a creative decision. He's lazy and a hack, and the fact that Super turned out so shit is because Toriyama allowed it to happen.

This in opposition to GT, where Toriyama was in no way involved in the story and exclusively designed some characters.

Perhaps, but ever since the 80's, Toei has been doing his own shit with the animated adaptation. And that's a lot of shit. A lot.

Obviously, someone like Toriyama wouldn't keep up with all of that and prefers to keep going with all that he's done in his manga.

Let's being a bit objective here. It's Toei the ones that messed up the consistency. But to be fair, Toei never imagined Toriyama would come back like 20 years later and, say, come up with the fact that Goku never kissed (was it?), for example, or to bring back Pilaf gang and make them part of the cast.
