Just watched the live-action adaption to it, any difference to the manga?
The first few episodes were pretty neat, but it became too repetitive, especially the jokes, and became a bore to watch. Is the manga better in that regard, did they at least explore the characters more throughly?
I think the manga series is also still going, how far is it now? Does it still feature Anno et al or did it shift into another direction.
I get what they tried to do with the romance angle, and how it fits into the story anyways, but it really was done so lame. Did Tsuda even come back or was that the end of her in the manga as well?
Ultimately, I was disappointed in the interactions between the characters as well as the jokes, they never really changed. Still, the premise was rather interesting and I liked the ending credits (the only emotional part there was, if at all).

Aoi Honoo is amazing, plebs just can't appreciate it. I'm sorry for your condition. The setting was really great for a look at the anime and manga fans of the past. The MC tries to rival anno and he does grow through those encounters. The ending gives the MC plenty of perspective he was missing before.

I never watched any Anime besides the most popular ones such as Evangelion, Death Note, Your Name et al, and still liked it (despite barely knowing much of the shows or creators mentioned). I appreciated the over-exciting antics of the protagonist whenever he was deconstructing something. Was not only funny at times (although repetitive in the long run), but also very informative.
I do wonder what Anno thinks of it, however, and if he and the creator of Aoi Hono ever had similiar interactions in real-life. Not that there were many to begin with in the show; and Anno IRL probably barely ever approached anyone for sure.

adding to that, because it was strictly "comedy", the protagonist became too one-dimensional and boring. Sucks out some of the manga scenes he's doing. No emotional progression at all until the end.
The live action was a fucking masterpiece.

what about the manga

Anno and Shimamoto are pals. Iirc most was exaggerated or added in for effect but some of them including the approval at the end did happen. Sadly the show's Char clone didn't really go around in a suit on a red bike to laugh at people.

>Implying anyone here including OP ever read the manga.

It's not even translated.
I wouldn't mind if it got picked up just from where the anime ends.

It's a bit regrettable that Shimamoto started drawing digitally though, there are some tacky screen tones now. It's enjoyable how it's so real-time so it covers a long period ergo a lot of oldschool fanservice, I giggle like a retard at this stuff.

Still features Gainax. Ishiguro Noboru showed up too.
