Fuck /a/! Also, it's a bit shitty to make an anime with the message that parental love is bad and worth less than cliched anime asexual lesbianism.
>>
>>152449731
The message was less parental love is inferior and more that you shouldn't sit in a comfortable niche your whole life. Could have done with a kiss but that hover-snuggle was pretty good too.

Her entire point was to give Yayaka plot tension in episode 9. Other than that, she was useless. They could have achieved the same thing by just saying the twins were more than enough for the missions and Yayaka was dragging them down, or something.

The funny part, of course, is that Yayaka had always been the anchor of their team and the one pulling most of the weight. Toto and Yuyu were essentially just backup, but more often than not they ended up as an audience to the 1-man show. Yuyu wasn't fast enough to hit anything unless she took it by surprise or Yayaka already incapacitated it, and Toto's ranged attack was just a weaker equivalent to Yayaka's primary offense.

The NyuYuTo team would have gotten steamrolled in episode 9's PI since Nyunyu herself is useless in a fight.
>>
Question:

Why is Cocona's name spelled "Cocona" and not "Kokona"?
>>
>>152448754
The director said it's because he wanted a twintailed character in the show. That was literally it.

Here's a question: what kind of a fucking name is Uexkull anyway? Is it meant to sound Western? Because it doesn't, and Japanese people couldn't even pronounce it (Cocona kept calling it, "Yu-kuskeru", which isn't even close to the spelling they made up for it).
>>
>>152451495
No, because the creators of the work romanized it as Cocona.

No, the message of the story is that if you love someone you must confess right away, as soon as you see them just proclaim your love love love for them.
Otherwise if you try to stay "Friends" someone else will appear and snatch her away from you after you spent so many years with her together and you'll be just a third wheel who gets to hang out for some scenes but doesn't get a special white henshin and instead ends with a rabbit.

It's a shame some of them never got any action.
I swear Yuyu pulls the "surprise punch from above" thing 3 times and that amounts to her entire action presence.

Toto does nothing until he gets to blow up Yayaka. That's his single crowning achievement in 13 episodes. He blows up Yayaka and then gets a scratch that takes him out of commission for the last 4 episodes.

I remember Yuyu's arms having some sort of ranged attack though, not quite sure where she used it at tho.

And yeah you make an interesting point, they are dangerous but they didn't really do that much.

Yayaka was by far the most dangerous of the trio, she could actually get in and do huge damage really well and incapacitated enemies all on her own without normally taking much damage herself.

Yuyu's punches were devastating and Toto could put some pressure if he wanted, but neither of them seemed to be good at a direct confrontation if it ever came to it.

Combat wise, in the end henshin Yayaka is probably the most capable fighter overall with the exception of the white henshins, because those were just godmode tier shit.

So it's confirmable that it was basically Sayuri's pure illusion right?

Is that something official, or at least with consensus?

She claims to know how to fight and throws some moves at Nyunyu. Has mad max poster and sailor moon. Most likely also a fan of fist of the north star.
All of those things sort of influenced ep 3's pure illusion in a similar way Iroha's pure illusion was also influenced by her art.
That means they could have found her deep pure illusion and fucked her up big time if things had gone a little wrong back then.
>>
>>152456276
It depends on what you are into the show for.
If you're in for the characters, themes, the plot, the romance, the sci fi, the action, the animation, etc.

This was definitely the best episode action and adventure wise.
Though the mecha episode comes close to it and surpassed it in hotblood at least. But it lacked the same adventure angle.

>>
>>152463166

Maybe.
Some of it might have come from there, but developed into something more.
I see Yayaka's love is often debated, was it childhood dear friend love or did she have more feelings for Cocona? There's no general agreement on either.
But for Papika I've just never seen her love questioned, everyone just accepted it by the end of the show as romantic. But there's definitely some familiarity in her love, though she seemed more like a little sister too.
It's just complicated.
>>
>>152463166
The answer must be somewhere in episode 7, whatever it is. At least from Cocona's point of view.
>>
>>152463319
I think Papika just loves Cocona as the most important person in the world to her. She never struck me as the type to aim for a romantic relationship but would be more than happy to do it for Cocona. It's that purest form of love where you're just happy to have that person in your life, be it as friend, lover or best friend's daughter.

>>

Felt a bit guilty though. This place had a no-picture policy.

But the japanese had a really strict following of their ruleset. Apparently you can't buy their product directly there and their only store is online.

A hearty discussion between someone that can barely understand/speak Japanese and people that can barely understand/speak english occured.

Highlight for me was when I made the guy chuckle and smile when I said "PuriPara Daidaidai-suki".

They were really kind and instructed me to use "Out-bound shipping service".
After our goodbye's typed that shit right out in google and ordered the tapestry properly.
Just waiting for the tapestry to arrive from tenso.com to hang near the Flip Flappers BDs and Music CDs.

A bit blog posty but I think this is well within reason since it relates to the producers to FlipFlappers.

Prism Paradise
Short form (プリパラ, Pripara) is easily confused with short form of Flip Flappers (フリフラ, Furifura) by english-speakers.
>>
>>152469071
First only 883 are the translations which aren't popular.

The rank isn't correct.

That's because it's the system which isn't added only that it was bought at the store where I cooperate with an Oricon shop.

Bought blu-ray and for dvd aren't added there in INFINITTO shop.

Still they're never translations with a lot of sales.

Flip flappers is also highly regarded in Japan.

But works for men aren't selling any more every year.

It's because they're more absorbed in a social game than a blu-ray is bought.

It's little to become in order for even a however wonderful work to buy a blu-ray.

Same. Blending magical girls, fairy tales, and grand theories on perspective and personality, this vibrant, ambitious series also featured a refreshingly honest look at female adolescence and awakening sexuality (with an adorably queer romance to boot!). When it comes to the overarching narrative and individual scripts (the majority of which were written by women, by the way), you’d have a tough time finding fault with FF.

However, a small part of the problem is in the visuals: a grabby robot here, an intrusive camera angle there, a girl badly in need of some pants over there. Although for the most part, this show succeeds at the daunting challenge of exploring teen sexuality without sexualizing teens, but when it stumbles, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. As a complete work it’s still an earnest, empowering story for girls, and overall I truly believe the creative team’s hearts were in the right place. It’s just a shame I can’t rewatch in the same way without mentioning that 5% of unpleasantness.

So what was the true meaning of ep 7?
The ways Cocona sees Papika?

That's the explanation I've heard the most.
>>
>>152474806
I think the common two are that the Papika's were born from Cocona's mind and represented the way she sees her, or that the Papika's were representations of the actual Papika and Cocona was coming to terms with all the unknown facets and open questions behind this mysterious person she had become so close to.

I like the latter better because I think it works in a sort of relationship anxiety that fits with the eventual resolution to their friendship->romance.
>>
>>152474806
I think so. The PI seems to be based on a dating simulation game and the Papika's are different character tropes or archetypes.
>>
>>152474806
I don't exactly know about the actual meaning but it might be that Cocona was actually trying to figure out how she percieved Papika.
>>
>>152475098
yeah this is what I thought, her PI was showing her all the things she could have instead of papika so she could reject them and realize that she wants papika the way she is.
>>
>>152473981

I liked Girlish's characterization a lot.
The girls balanced the line between 2D and 3D well.
They showed a lot of a human side, for better or worse, with selfishness, fears and hopes and acted in somewhat more realistic ways than the average cute girl but they were still pretty cute.

I wish more characters went for something like that. Showing the characters as flawed and carrying a lot of emotional baggage and issues, while still being cute and enjoyable girls.

It was pretty damn sudden.
When Papika appears she was practically a stalker to Cocona, dragging her around almost by force and not leaving her alone.

That's the way it looked at first to Yayaka, but out of nowhere they become best friends and fight together against her now.
It's an understandable reason to be shocked and feel some scorn and insecurities the way she did and lash out a bit. She must have felt so terrible inside anytime she saw her dear friend having cute light hearted yuri adventures with the puppy while she was stuck with the twins and the crazy cultists being treated like trash and forced to keep it all hidden.

Yayaka's love is genuine, her their childhood friendship even if it was started by an order was the real deal and that much is unquestionable.
The problem is that Yayaka had a hard time being honest about her feelings. I wouldn't call her tsundere because she was actually nice to Cocona, but she hid her maiden's feelings for her with a cool easy going girl facade. Later she tries to act the cynical who only cares about the mission instead. But that facade doesn't last either.

She even does a half assed attempts to get Cocona on her side but she comes off as too antagonistic and cold with it. She doesn't tell Cocona her feelings straight, she just says 'they're different" or "she doesn't understand" and "stop getting involved".

Episode 5, 8 and 9 show Yayaka's struggle in being honest about her feelings. And it takes until near the end for Yayaka to finally embreace them, once she does she can talk to Papika on an equal level, she wasn't hostile to her anymore, because she wasn't feeling insecure anymore, she didn't have anything to hide.
Her henshin was the result of taking that last step towards admitting her feelings.
It really took a lot of shit and pressure and character development to get Yayaka to open up and now that she finally did it it's too late, Papika x Cocona is the OTP and they are in love love love.

>She must have felt so terrible inside anytime she saw her dear friend having cute light hearted yuri adventures with the puppy while she was stuck with the twins and the crazy cultists being treated like trash and forced to keep it all hidden.
If Yayaka had pushed to be by Cocona's side then she would have somewhere to belong as well as not having to deal with the cult.

Yeah but Yayaka felt guilty because she grew to like Cocona as a genuine friend whereas the reason for even knowing and getting close to Cocona was because the enemy team had told her to do so. The artificial aspect of the whole manipulation had a huge impact on her feelings towards Cocona, and Cocona took it very bad when she learned the truth.
Yayaka was pretty much powerless and couldn't do anything. Papika, on the other hand, had no sense of guilt about what she did, because it was genuine for her: she used Cocona to go to PI, but to her, that was only to have fun. Besides, she had nothing to hide from Cocona due to lack of memories.

Papika in the end still deserved Cocona.
I'm not saying Yayaka didn't, but Papika was probably the more deserving of the two.
Anyways though Cocona was the privileged, yet worst girl of the three. Papika and Yayaka should have found love in each others' arms, but that's just not how love works.

Also, Nyunyu for sexiest girl and magical girl spin-off lead.
>>
>>152480977
True. Good points.
Also I think the way the two of them , Papika and Yayaka, they think in very different ways.
Yayaka was much more self concious, and overthought stuff, she seemed to carry the weight of her actions very heavily, and had a great sense of personal responsibility.
Where's Papika was much more of a free spirit, she didn't overthink stuff or let anything throw her off balance except for a few times and it was due to really big shocking stuff that almost broke her down at the time. Otherwise she was able to enjoy the moment and acted without shame or regrets, her warmth was very genuine.

That might be one of the big things that made Papika so perfect for Cocona.
>>
>>152480893
Yayaka really could just be there with them.

But the dumb girl is still standing in her own way.

>>

I see Yayaka being the third wheel and easy going straight man to the Cocona x Papika romantic duo.
She'll get to hang out with them, accompany them on adventures every now and then and she'll be her friends, they'll all "love" each other.
But the true romantic affection is reserved between Cocona and Papika only.
Cocona might fall asleep in Yayaka's shoulder sometimes, and she'll get to go with them to pure illusion to have some fun adventures.
But only Cocona and Papika will I love love love you each other, hand hold and sleep together.

Right now as it stands it's a fantastic show with plenty of great things done in 10/10 quality, and watching it is a unique and wonderful experience.

But it had the potential to be a decade defining classic of supreme excellence and full of amazement and a completely rewarding experience.

I don't know how much the writer change affected it, the pacing and exposition could have been better specially near the end.
But I definitely felt the animation change, when they went from overdelivering animation to Oshiyama having to draw for 4 days straight to deliver in time.

It was still great and the ending was technically good with plenty of themes being played out, I cannot call it bad. But it lacked a certain extra energy to make it finish off with a strong note. It sort of went out with a whimper more than a bang.

If ep 13 had been as intense as ep 3 it would have been so much better overall.
>>
>>152484360
3hz is not a heavyweight studio and Oshiyama is not as resourceful as Anno was during Evangelion. Nobody tries to find asspulls in Gunbuster. Makes you think.
>>

>But it had the potential to be a decade defining classic of supreme excellence and full of amazement and a completely rewarding experience.
No, it did not. It was just a very good show.
>>
>>152483520
>too much sexualization
>not enough time to flesh out the characters and making better plot to complement its depth, instead ending up with numerous bland characters, one of them being a main character, and a cliched plot
>"pacing? what pacing? let's go with the anime convention, that is finishing much of the plot near the end of the show!"
>tacky, amateurish scripts (I've loved you since you were born, etc.)
>shitty and revealing/lewd costumes
>production hiccups
>shitty audio mastering
>no merchandises
But it is anon, considering the pedigree of the staff involved. I will forever hold grudges toward Oshiyama and Yuniko for missing their chance to make the deepest and best yuri anime of all time that can even influence other more respectable art media. It could have blown shitty "critically-acclaimed" flicks like Inception and so on our of water, but instead we got this mess of anime tropes. I will shitpost every single show, film, keyframe, or episode Oshiyama directs/animates out from now on. The same goes for everything Yuniko is involved in. I would blame the producers too but then again they already felt that career change anyway.

>>152484899
>It was just a very good show.
That damage control. Why don't you just admit that it shat itself up at the end, forever ruining everything else entirely, instead of "merely" just downgrading it from "it's 9/10 one of the best AOTY!" to "7.5/10 just a very good show." Flip Flappers got into out hearts. Once this happened, the show transcended the seasonal hype. Even the haters can't control themselves.

Gave this shit an episode.
Looked like a TTGL remake and decided to pass it up (primarily due to all the fucking threads on /a/).

These look cool and all, but somehow it feels like a waste to have Pablo draw these backgrounds just to use them in one three second shot where nothing happens.

Cuddling intensely. If I ever had me a Papika I would latch onto her like a barnacle and never let go.

That series's description sounds similar to Flip Flappers in some ways.

Ahaha look what you did. Good job fag
>>
>>152498587

It was. Although Abenobashi did sorta make a nosedive near the end where it went from pure comedy gold to typical young-male-protagonist-screaming-and-crying drama near the end, and then quickly switched back to comedy in the final episode.

Arumi was pretty damn nice though...

Flip Flappers is like Etotama. An anime that reddit likes, but ultimately won't buy at all.
>>
>>152498631
Literally saving anime. Praise!

Papika wasn't that endowed.

I like her this way though.

Those numbers are three times the amount of people in the west who liked Flip Flappers anyway, proving once again that the West is just bark and no bite.

That's always the case when it comes to anime, I don't see why you're acting like Flip Flappers was supposed to change that.
>>
>>152498767

>not a fan if you don't buy a 70Euro unsubbed BD with only 2 eps.
>>
>>152498587
There are similarities in that it's episodic and consists in exploring parallel worlds, each having a specific theme.

Some episodes are really good. I loved the one Imaishi directed, which is a mecha homage akin to FF episode 8.
>>
>>152498793
Because westerners like to pretend that they have better taste than nipponjins, despite this not being true at all.
>>
>>152498897
Yeah those are the similarities I was talking about.
It sounds like a fun show.
>>
>>152498897

Plus, Arumi being forced to go nopan through-out that episode because a Pikachu-knock-off stole it was hilarious.

Any more shows with a similar gimmick?

The mindset that yayaka mention what is mean?

Because they are friend, you can ship them but you can't claim that they are canon gay.

Cocona is not the only one being thirsty.
>>
>>152499285
Papika started without her.
>>
>>152499312
Well yeah. Insofar as the "exploring pure illusion" thing is used as a metaphor for "exploring sexuality" - which is pretty often bordering on always - Yayaka outright says she's not interested in Cocona that way.
>>
>>152498953
Abenobashi was fun but mediocre overall. Its redeeming quality is that I still want to fuck Arumi.
>>
>>152499973

Yeah i liked the show, and feel the same about Arumi, but it took a nosedive once the story went for the standard "All this comedy is just a way for the young male protagonist to not deal with pain and death" conclusion with Sashi scream+cry tantrum that's only been done over a million times over since Shinji Ikari

Let us be honest here, Flip Flappers was overall a mediocre anime at best that become overrated due to it's gimmick art style.

Take a note from 152501314 and learn to recognize bait. Someone just presents something blatantly wrong as if it were a fact that everyone already agrees with and waits for (You)s.
