oh yeah, now we're on the topic of this. Did that white figure/Gate of Truth/God? really set the equivalence of a human life to another's connection to their alchemy, or was he just a chaotic spirit who was delighted in seeing the irony/beauty in Ed's bargain?

The thing's laughter could have been indicating either or, but I guess it leans more toward its appreciation that Ed finally chose a decent answer for his brother's soul.
