Since there's a new YGO movie releasing next month here in the west, I thought it would be cool to dump the original manga which the movie is based off of. For those of you who only ever watched the anime, I highly recommend reading the manga as it's much darker and better written than the anime was imo. There's also none of the fillers you have to deal with. Since the movie is releasing on Jan 27, 2017, I will dump one volume a day leading up to its release.
Today we continue Battle City in volume 30. The end is near!
Just finished reading the GX manga earlier today. I was hoping it would be as long as the Duelist series, but it was only 64 chapters.
The last duel was pretty great, though. Hopefully someone will storytime it after this.
This is such bullshit. He was already in the battle phase, he shouldn't have been able to summon Red Eyes, he missed his chance. Phases exist in the manga, so this is just clear bullshit
Kaiba gets robbed
First of all its played for dramatic effect. Second, Red-Eyes doesn't affect the outcome of the duel since he brings back the BE that it killed so it doesn't matter if it was summoned or not.
>First of all its played for dramatic effect.
No, he had no idea he could use it until it was the middle of the battle phase. This outright contradicts the rules mentioned earlier in the tournament, and mentioned in the Yugi vs Marik duel
No, he got fucked by it and endured with his wall of kuribohs/fusing mammoth graveyard with BEUD
He was still going to win due to bullshit, but the virus' effect of ruining his deck was never stopped
Did Joey ever get Red Eyes back? I mean he materializes it in the millennium rpg afterwards so I take that as a sign that he somehow feels he earned it back but it's never outright stated.
and this is why Joey winning would have solved jack shit, all it would have done is make Marik more desperate since he lost Ra but would still have his crazy insane psychopath alter ego at the wheel.
Before anyone says bullshit because Malik attacked on his first turn
Original manga effect is :"Vampiric Leech" can attack your opponent on the first turn. At the end of the turn by discarding 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard, switch this card to Defense Position.
See, in this duel Marik was actually trying to win the game. In his duels with Mai and Joey he just dicked around focusing on torturing and making fools of his opponent instead of using Ra effectively. It almost backfired against Joey though
Thanks for the encouragement. It's been a long journey but almost done with it.
Why did they nerf Ra so much in the real game? Or any of the gods for that matter? By time they were officially released, even their manga effects weren't really anything special in the meta. In fact, they were weak. Yet they still got nerfed hard
It's much MUCH easier to avoid collateral 'damage' in an anime show than in real life.
By collateral I mean the angry shit like brawling and emotional trauma, the stuff you see in other real life games, as a matter of fact. Tell me some twelve year old kid is gonna watch their opponent pull an asspull of a card like 'Manga Ra' in a real life card game and take it well.
Ah, thanks. Then clearly the Virus strategy itself wouldn't eliminate Exodia.
What it WOULD do though is completely cripple any and every stalling tactic a player could employ in order to buy time to summon Exodia.
And that ends volume 30. Tomorrow we finish Battle City in volume 31!
So, I get Kaiba not accepting the pharaoh stuff, but, do people acknowledge that Yami is not "Yugi?"
I guess Kaiba's just a being a bitch by calling a person who's not Yugi, Yugi.
>during each of your standby phases, send half the cards in your deck to the graveyard
There's more than one archtype out there that would be able to abuse the fuck out of that
It's one of the biggest problems with the game right now. Costs aren't really costs anymore, and haven't been for a long time.
He was absent during the entire millenium world arc until the final chapter where they showed him in Egypt for some reason looking at Yugi's group from afar. So his rival pretty much ditched him and he had trouble letting go.
I can still hear every Kaiba line in Eric Stuart's voice. The Yugioh dubs aren't the best, but the voice actors for the main rivals in each season were amazing at capturing the douchey smugness of Kaiba, Chazz and Jack.
Which is funny because they insist in doing it even after they know his real name. One of my favorite moments is at the end when he tells Yugi that he's not his other him but rather his own person and that there's no other Yugi but him.
Pretty tame desu because in the volume it's explained that it's not akasha, it was a blank personality created from akasha, akasha was inside alukard, so tsukune was in love with a fake personality who happen to looks like her

Any beaters without "Cannot be destroyed/Cannot be targeted/Cannot be affected" or some sort of negate is sadly just not good enough for the meta unless it's OTK.
interesting, so to beat this card you need to
a) Remove it from play (aka banish) without targeting
b) Send it to the extra deck, again without targeting
c) Destroy it in battle
d) Tribute it to summon Lava Golem or Volcanic Queen
any other options?
>where they showed him in Egypt for some reason looking at Yugi's group from afar.
The implication there is that after Battle City he leaves to build Kaibaland but then when he comes back to Domino City he finds out Yugi went to Egypt. He arrives just barely after the Ceremonial Duel ends. Presumably he asks Yugi what happened and he tells him Atem departed this world. That's how he knows Atem's name in Transcend Game and the movie.
Most feminine blue eyes
Most forms of removal that get around both of those conditions are usually archetype-specific, like Tiaramisu and Towers. Also fuck Towers I hope it never comes off the banlist where it belongs.
who cares about that? Ito did a pretty good job emulating Kaz art and storytelling
besides, Jou shines a lot, his rematch vs Keith is great
Maiden is old as fuck already and is actually pretty terrible to run in a blue eyes deck
Dark Magician got some support from the movie pack, or more accurately, Dark Magician Girl did, but it is shit, like always
Pretty sure that one preceded the movie. And to answer your other question yes, Dark Magician got a bunch of new cards.
This is why I prefer the video games to the real games. In the games I can play around with all sorts of decks and have long duels. In real life you just scramble to complete your combat first, duels don't last longer than 4 turns max
They have those sites that you do online duels using the entire card library.
Would you guys be down for having duels using classic cards? I'm personally a fan of running gambler decks that would never see actual competitive play.
I love those sites. Like going on them with friends and dicking around with character decks or archetypes that just don't work at all. Hi5 at running gambler decks, I love dice decks
remember that Duel Monsters became old and busted and Pokémon became the next big thing
This year a new mobile game called Yugioh Duel Links came out. It has over 1200000000 DL already and it uses the DM Era cards and rules
Pokemon GO is dead. Yugiog Duel Links is the new Game now. It even has online and DM only cards
Nope. Only DM cards and characters........for now. Its perfect if you like how Yugioh was before Synchro and all that shit.
It's amazing how much effort Konami put in this game. Well it shouldn't surprised me that much considering they have gone full mobile now. But the game even has the same voice actors in 150 languages
Wait, so Kaiba wasn't bluffing when he said he was going to jump if he lost?
Even though he could have won that duel?
So he helps him to prove friendship is useless? Sounds weird.
I'm playing this right now.
Konami made a genius move focusing on this game.
Now they can attract the casuals who's intimidated by new mechanics and willing to fork out money to buy shitty virtual cards.
It's hilarious how two headed king rex and arsenal summoner are meta cards.
You're not wrong.
Best beater in the game is Jerry Beans Man at 1750, and he's rare as fuck.
If you play as Rex Raptor, he got a bonus that starts with the field Jurassic World which give all dinos 300 atk, turning 2 headed king rex and crawling dragon #2 into 1k9 beaters.
Arsenal Summoner is a 1k6 spellcaster that tutors another beater on flip, and has 1k8 if played as Yami Yugi because he starts with Yami field spell.
There are 3250 fusion monsters and Ultimate Blue eyes. But yeah everyone can enjoy the game. You just have to use the right maguc and trap cards.......like in the manga
>If you play as Rex Raptor, he got a bonus that starts with the field Jurassic World which give all dinos 300 atk, turning 2 headed king rex and crawling dragon #2 into 1k9 beaters.
My Rex deck is by far the best one but i think keith has teh best ability
They have their own boosters and card pools.
The ridiculous thing is the boosters are time-limited, encouraging people to spend real money to buy them because sooner or later the cards in those boosters will become unavailable.
How do you farm for the two 1k6 dinos?
does challenging rex at lower levels give less chance for them to spawn?
Can't wait to use this son of a bitch
I almost feel bad for Kaiba, but damn if he didn't have this coming the whole arc.
>"He should've stayed dead."
holy shit this made me laugh way too hard
kaiba has enough salt to fill an ocean
Of course not. Kaiba is already in third due to dueling second. In the anime, Yugi and Kaiba dueled first, so he finished in fourth before beating Joey for third place.
>Best beater in the game is Jerry Beans Man
I love Jerry Beans Man. I made a deck based around him after I got him as my Duel Spirit in one of the GX video games. Spirit Caller, I think?
I feel bad for Kaiba. He's so obsessive that I actually wish he could win against Yugi for once just so he could let it go and become chill for once in his life.
Kaiba just doesn't want Yugi to lose the finals, but doesn't want to admit that he wants to help him. The whole "Yugi will lose and then I'll prove friendship sucks." thing is just mental gymnastics.
To be fair, it's more like
>I was adopted into a filthy rich family and thoroughly abused by a guy whose idea of teaching moral values was jumping out of his board room in front of me and committing suicide when I took over his company.
Gozaburo fucked him up pretty bad, man.
>'Kaiba, I admire you not only as a duelist, but also as a friend.'
>Atem making Kaiba experience death at their school
>Atem breaking Kaiba's mind and putting him in a coma at Death-T
>Atem getting ready to murder Kaiba at Duelist Kingdom
...I don't see it. Atem didn't really start being decent to Kaiba until this arc.
He started respected Kaiba back in DK. Think back to the duel against the puppet master. Or how he was determined to beat Pegasus and get back Kaiba and Mokuba's souls. The mind break stuff was for Kaiba's own good to teach him a lesson.
The whole getting ready to murder thing was Atem being unable to let go of his pride. It's not like he wanted to kill Kaiba but he had to win for his own sake. He realized his mistake afterwards and reflected on it.
Atem kinda decided to stop hating on kaiba once he saw the man get his shit kicked in by fucking toons, he probably just felt bad realizing kaiba is autist supreme and will never actually git gud.
Well, I think at first he was expecting Kaiba to get better and was optimistic when the Blue Eyes disappeared during that duel to show that Kaiba had awakened.
But then Kaiba came to the island and just destroyed Joey's confidence for shits and giggles and Atem got upset about that.
Then Kaiba dueled him again outside of the Duelist Kingdom castle and Atem said something like "You dare bare your fangs at me again?!". I got the feeling Atem was getting tired of him by that point.
Well yeah he was disappointed to see his mind crush didn't completely change him but that just made his resolve to help Kaiba even stronger. It's a gradual thing that started building up from the moment they first met. Atem is really the only one that understands Kaiba and they are pretty much the same person except one had friends and one doesn't. Atem wants to show Kaiba that friendship can help him be a better person and I think that's also partially why he accepts him as a friend, to show him he's sincere.
Bad is that there's only 3 spaces for monster and spells each so using continuous or equip cards might screw you over by not letting you place any more spells. And deck size is smaller.
Also you can play as different characters and each character has different skills they can use. So it isn't exactly like the game.
Yeah you just gotta save up your gems for booster packs. At the start it may seem like you get a lot but that's only because of early gifts, after that the flow slows down, so don't waste them all and keep some for newer boosters when they're released
If you want something 100% faithful to the game theres also Yugioh Duel Generation for mobile. But that one has Synchro, XYZ and soon Pendulums
Why are you being such an insufferable moron? If you saw I was making a mistake, point it out and I'll stop making it. End of story.
Instead, you look at it in every topic without saying a word and then spazz out like an autist.
>Instead, you look at it in every topic without saying a word and then spazz out like an autist.
This how I know you're trolling. I've corrected you in every storytime. I used to be nice, and you still spread it, so now I insulted you
