Why are side characters usually much more interesting than MCs?

Why are side characters usually much more interesting than MCs?
>>
>>152341177
Name 10 movies, 30 series, 5 OVA's, 20 VN's, and 1 anno product that does this.
>>
They usually aren't though.
>>
>>152341177
That shit is a minor character.
>>
why hate the clock?
>>
>>152341225
Fate does this for everything except the Anno product.
>>
>>152341177
Because you watch too much harem trash.
>>
Because their backstories and motivations are much less explored than the main characters, and there are a lot more of them so it's easy to cherry pick.
>>
Because most people are too incompetent to make the MC look appealing and interesting for more than a handful of episodes. It gets stale so its natural to have an increasing interest in the chars that get less screentime. This happens particularly often in shonen. Hell, is there a single shonen this isnt the case in?
>>
>>152341177
Because they usually don't have to take the role of being the "Self-Insert" character for the viewer.

I would like to do things to a clock and a rabbit maybe even at the same time?
>>
>>152341177
Because they aren't the targets for bland people to self-instert into so the writers give them personality.
>>
>>152342569
Bastard!! during its time as a shounen

JoJo is an arguable case depending on which part you're talking about.

and also a side character.

>no more clock doujins
>>
>>152341177
Because you watch shitty harem anime. I really don't get the appeal, the MCs are usually borderline gay so I can't insert even if I wanted to, and all the girls will bland tropes that have been regurgitated one thousand times. Do people really still fall for these shitty stories?
>>
>>152341177
Because many MCs were not actually fleshed out character, they often merely serve as the lense through which the audience to view the world, and/or just for the audience to self-insert for wish fulfillments.

Obviously,
Sharo >>> Cocoa
>>
>>152341177
Because the author is not desperate to make us like side characters and thusly make them better character which are more likeable
Also OOC garbage

Only in battle harems.

MCs usually aren't characters, they're either self-inserts or the glue that brings all the other characters together and makes the plot. Now if you mean main girl, then the main girl is almost always the most plain and nondescript, to appeal to the widest audience possible. Interesting characters get secondary roles, possibly because many authors don't have what it takes to write much about them.

Also, when it comes to adaptations of VNs or LNs, by following the boring main girl's story, they effectively tell you "you wanted intelesting stoly? Buy visuar nover!"

MC is generally a self-insert and must remain bland to be more relatable to viewers.

Side characters provoke interesting situations for the MC (and thus, the viewer) to react to.
>>
Why is the clock such a semen demon
>>
Are there shows where there is no MC?

Or the MC becomes an interesting side character for another character's story?

Haven't watched or read DaL in a long time
Can't she just stop time right there?
>>
>>152341177
Because side characters are easier to work with and change than the MC. Means they have more freedom to do what they want and not effect the story too much.
