It was bad. Really bad. Hype was real for the first half, but then it squandered all its potential by making theEND a red herring, introduced some shit knock-off that no one gave a shit about, and then rushed through its ending at the speed of light to the point that literally no fucks were given.

To cap it all off, the latter half was epitomized with its introduction of a literal retcon gun because they couldn't figure out what to do with their initial time travel premise, so they just got to the point where they stacked time travel bullshit on top of time travel bullshit before finally at the very end going, "Eeeeeeh, yeah none of it actually mattered. Total retcon."

If the ENDING tells you to ignore everything you just watched, why the fuck should a single damn be given about it?

Looks like it's more or less just going to be varied scenes from the gap between Ao fucking off and arriving back at his own time. Maybe an actual scene for closure once he gets back at the end too. I actually dig the lone (ignoring Truth for my own sanity) wandering thing, too bad about the show in question doing it.

10% was a couple episode arc in the middle of the show that was actually pretty interesting and much closer tied to E7.

The other 10% was the ending of the show. Which was both tied very closely to E7 (both the series AND the movie) and completely desecrated everything E7 stood for.

Even if you leave out the ways the show tries to ruin Eureka Seven (one example: they assign Holland's VA to voice adult Renton), it falls apart completely. Characters' motivations change on a whim to suit the needs of the plot, so things don't make a lot of sense. Then, once the show introduces both time travel and a weapon that retcons things out of existence, everything rapidly becomes completely and totally meaningless. Conflicts built throughout the show fizzle into nothingness, and the ending (and its message) more or less pop out of nowhere.

It's an unsatisfying mess, and that's being charitable. A waste of a good soundtrack.

If I remember E7AO's ending right, the final time he fired the Retcon Cannon he spent years struck in time before was able to return to the world. When he makes it back he's now the same age as Fleur instead of years younger than her and with visibly longer hair

A single number doesn't explain the problem adequately.

On the average, the show was a fairly bog-standard mecha show with very typical presentation and very basic links to Eureka Seven.

Occasionally it would shine with moments like Ao meeting his (time-traveling) mother who was pregnant with not him, but his younger sister... more on that later and interactions between Fleur and Ao and Christopher Blanc being a goddamn hero. Sometimes these would be just side-character things that were fun (like the Okinawans and Ivicha's bits) and were worthwhile.

Then it would tease things that would be good but are then executed poorly, like with Donte... uh, I mean Truth, and Elena's subplot. Then also include a single Acperience episode tease that really was just everyone tripping balls for a while. Add in the stuff with the secrets as a larger plot point and the third engines or whatever in the other LFOs you had a lot of wasted potential.

Finally, there were moments that actively trolled and fucked with people who liked the original Eureka Seven. Examples include teasing and blowing up TheEnd for no reason, Dad Renton (complete with Charles' rifle) showing up and being useless and trouble, the retcon gun, the two minute soccer tease, everything involving Naru, the other gen-blu team and a coralian biology lesson that made no fucking sense.

The result was a show that was okay at best, when it wasn't being tone-deaf bad and picking fights with the die-hard fans of the original.

Captain Earth was a better successor to Eureka Seven than Ao; for reference, I'm still on hiatus for watching it because I could not fucking deal with Captain Earth for being either one of the most predictable and cliche'd thing to leave BONES or being the best self-referential parody imaginable.

If this final episode is not either the cure for cancer or a soccer game, Dewey was not only right, but fucking justified.

There isn't really a way to dance around it, E7AO is a servicable, merely ok show for most of it's run until the final episodes, where the following is revealed:

1) The half of the Corelians that merged with humanity and departed Earth at the end of E7? They didn't head into space, they traveled the multiverse. This has CATASTROPHIC consequences to the places they travel - the alternate universes react to this foreign body appearing in them like a body reacting to an infection - rejecting it with antibodies, like it's a disease. Every living bring in the movie universe dies because of this. In the AO-verse, the Corelians travel back in time to evade them, but this brings the antibodies similarly back in time altering history in that universe for the worse. Humans thinking this things are monsters also fight them, meaning the antibodies adapt to see humanity as a threat. This is why all the universes died.

2) Renton and Eureka in the original universe have a daughter. She dies almost immediately after birth because a Corelian-Human hybrid can't live in this universe because the remaining Corelian presence and Traper is basically lethally toxic to them. You get to enjoy the wonderful imagery of Eureka and Renton weeping over their dead child's grave! When Eureka falls pregnant a second time, she and Renton together vow to PURGE THE CORELIANS from their universe to hopefully make it safe for their child. Eureka is 100% resolved to destroy her kind because she won't lose another child the same way.

Not to mention the "impossible" love between Eureka and Renton turned out to be full of nothing but misery.

I liked Elena's voice and Elena's emoting helmet, especially the scene where she thinks Ao's confessing to her then he starts talking about everyone and everything else he likes. I think that's about all I enjoyed in AO.
