Why were 90s girls more fun?
Don't you think that KonoSuba has a kind of 90's flair to its characters and humor?
Maybe that's why faggots don't like it
90's was a good time for some realistic character designs (Jojo's OVA, Kenshin OVA...) but the more risky ones are the 2000's like Kaiba or Mononoke or even Kaiji, imo.
Though I know that you're also thinking about nowadays very cliché way to draw faces with huge eyes and spiky hair, true it had more personality in its own, even if each creator still copied each other.
Characters didn't seem like they were lifted directly from H-games, which were created to pander to the preferences of the target players.
Although a lot did fit Hollywood stereotypes.
Because girls were allowed to be actually strong, independent characters rather than worthless waifs or bitches who put on a strong face, but are really weak and helplessly in need of the MC's dick.
It's because the modern anime otaku can't handle strength. Not in the MCs, which is why they all have to be weak little girly boys, or in the females.
Because it wanted to make the 90s look bad. Because it was made by an underage little shitfuck.
The market is larger, but the bubble that gave us the OVA boom of the 80s into the 90s collapsed hard. Now the industry is averse to taking any risks outside of tried and true formulae.
Ghost was the best girl. Except for maybe the bug girl at the end of the manga, but I read it so long ago its a bit of blur
>literally pic related
Why do 90 nostalgia fags continue to shill for this ugly girl and the Tenchi show overall? It was boring and everyone in that show looked like garbage.
Tenchi had a big ass head with an oddly proportioned face.
Really, it seems like the guy who made this just hate the 90s, though I think it's understandable for a japanese. You know, they were already experiencing their economic crisis.
>Why do people like things I don't and why can't I understand that people have different tastes that I can't understand because I don't share them?
You have to be 18+ to use this site.
To be real waifuism was a thing probably way back since the early 80's. It's just now you can shitpost and talk about it online to everyone rather then that one guy at the video store.
Man Ryoko always seemed like someone you can always chill out, have fun or go on space adventures with.
Both Aisha and Hilda gave me boners that could pierce adamantium.
>shrill entitled bitch with zero sense of humor
Of course it was
But shows weren't made solely with waifufags in mind as they are now, it was coincidental in shows that generally had another overall purpose. Which is a good part of why things have degraded so much recently.
The closest you get is things like Gall Force or BGC, which still try to give you a plot to care about and plenty of action.
>It's the "people have different likes and opinions" trope
Get over yourselves already. In know Tenchi was 90s toonamifag-baby's first anime, but you don't really expect me that you like Ryoko's, Ayeka, Washu's designs, right? Really...?
You have a whole slew of much more pretty girls today and even 15 years back. Don't let your tastes be hold back back this dated 90s anime that is Tenchi.
> The closest you get is things like Gall Force or BGC
>The series revolves around Miss Machiko, a new elementary school teacher who wears a revealing red mini-skirt and regularly finds herself in accidental sexual situations. Machiko is very popular with her students, especially the boys, who take delight in lifting up her skirts and devising traps to catch her in various stages of undress. Rather than get angry, Machiko responds by laughing it off and uttering her trademark phrase, Maicchingu! (roughly meaning "Embarrassing!"). Machiko is generally a very kind and patient woman who cares about her students and does her best to help them with their problems.
I feel exactly the same way. It reminds me of Slayers and stuff like that.
I think that's why I like Konosuba and /a/ seems not to, I could care less about animation quality when I grew up with '80s/'90s trash outsourced animation and Konosuba's humor is comfy and almost nostalgic to me but I guess most of /a/ was in diapers when I got into anime and in kindergarten when I started posting on 4chan and has been spoiled by Kyoani budgetfests now.
Never did care for spiky hair, fortunately it was found mostly on males.
>I like Konosuba and /a/ seems not to
>/a/ seems not to
> most of /a/ was in kindergarten when I started posting on 4chan
Are you sure you didn't start posting on 4chan last week?
There's some merit in this. Apparently she got to fuck him first.
Oh and to add onto that they gave no fucks about guys( in particular their husbandos) seeing their tits. Most anime girls today slap the shit out of you if one of their tits pop out by mistake, but Ryoko and Aisha gave no fucks whatsoever. They proudly displayed their tits!
Some people actually like no fun.
I don't know why but they do.
What exactly are you talking about, then? I wouldn't say basically anything is made solely with the intent of making characters people's waifu - there aren't enough waifufags for that, considering that they can each only have one and like half of them are probably accounted for by 5-10 eternally-popular choices. The most relevant "girl-centric" trends currently are CGDCT focused on being cutesy and endearing, and battleharems focused on making people masturbate.
The only modern anime with fun female characters are Gintama and KonoSuba.
I want sexy tomboys back.
Feels like girls from older anime were designed with actual input from female staff, or the writers weren't complete virgins who were ignored in school so they actually had an idea of how relationships worked.
I think to something like Golden Boy which absolutely had all the tropes which we see now like the MC being a young, powerful, genius moralfag who gets all the girls to fall for him, but it's not like SAO or any other generic harem where he gets it immediately without hard work. There are circumstances and struggles, antagonistic relationships even at the start but the catharsis and feeling of success is stronger at the end.
SAO is like, Kirito never had to work for anything he got. He was OP from the start, plot armor, retconning, admin access vs the final boss at the end of the series. His relationship with his waifu was never in-doubt. And it was way too fast and way too hard with the daughter suddenly coming into play.
I don't know how to sum up. Perhaps what I want to say is that the male MC and the female supporting cast were more equal in their roles instead of the MC being able to carry the entire show with his infinite powers, the women were there to say, "yeah don't forget us, we're important as well".
They get worse with every decade.
I'm getting really sick of the over-simplified :D faces that are everywhere now.
It was a good time
Here's a screencap from a new OVA episode which aired in Japan around 2 months ago
My OCD is telling me to tell you to get a better image.
And to download the blu-rays.
>Is this subbed yet?
Nope, dead anime I guess. I'm sure eventually at some point it will.
But most importantly you can't even find the raw episode(s?) So not sure what the deal is
The last time I had a computer with that little space was in 1999 and I had to get rid of it to make sure my computer was Y2K compliant.
It was, but I made the mistake of getting a computer with Windows ME.
Can't find the raws? That's weird, should be out within a month or two. Not sure when it'll get subbed but considering specials for series like Devilman still get subbed, I'm sure it will sometime.
What a babe.
Cool hair design, super hot body, gave no fucks and flirted, flashed naked tits and ass to her man constantly, rough around the edges and legitimately stronk womyn
I miss female characters like this
He was best girl, Tho.
That's just optimization and quality going on.
The audience knows its an anime, knows what it likes about it, so the creators have learned from that and they have developed the same tastes as the audience.
The result is extreme expertise in crafting experiences to satisfy what achieved a stronger response in those who enjoy it.
I think it's because Japan decided to stop portraying some American fantasy like powerful individuals fucking shit up.
All those pansies are more realistic and relatable personalites for most of Japan than shounen heroes. After all, the target market is Japanese. You might not think so, but isekai is normie shit.
No fanservice, Also 3 minutes in and worst girl appears before Ryoko, DROPPED.
Ugh, I really hate everything about the OVA cannon after the Kagato shit. I swear I have never seen a show tank in quality that hard and that fast. The potential for a sci fi epic is sitting right there and what do they do with it? fuck nothing just sit around the Masaki house waiting for dignitaries to show up and yap on about how cool Kaji thinks his universe is.
and now we have all the makis and rems of the world.
doesn't it disturb you to think that anime is always culminating in the next highly refined waifu? that all the originals and slight derivatives you enjoyed are being sacrificed on the altar of public memory so even more shameless and distilled meme characters can take their place, and that they too will be forgotten until japan has discovered a small selection of girls so perfect in their characterization, voicework, and visual design that any straight man or gay woman presented with them will fall head over heels for at least one, no matter how "normal" and resistant to waifufaggotry they are?
because it disturbs me
anime: japanese cartoons
anime: carefully engineered dopamine and oxytocin generation
anime: the world's most disruptive psychic weapon
I would only watch it just to SEE Ryoko. She's literally the only fucking thing I care about. You could just splice all the Ryoko clips from that episode and that would satisfy me 100%. The OVA continuity has been tarnished for over a decade since 3.
a lot of 90s girls suffered from irremediably horrible hair
they also have ugly as fuck cartoonish huge feet and hands and bodies that had very unfeminine figures
some of them have shit faces that make key shit look like good
the ones that supposedly had "big" breasts were really barely medium or noticeable by any respectable standard
no asses or hips
art styles and body designs are never going back to that trash
practically nobody wants it because it's bad on a fundamental level
this thread seems like the biggest pile of contrarianism and lack of a taste I've ever seen
it's either that or some serious nostalgia that's gone retarded
what's up with those posts that look like straight out of tumblr and reddit?
I mean some really sjwish dumb as a brick shit
if I liked 90s girls for nostalgia I'd be really fucking sad to share the same tastes with people who sound like straight out of gender studies classes aka the "I got in debt to serve coffee" degree and award for retardation
I tip my fedora to all of you my friends, carry on
Even 2 wasn't really all that good.
Id advice you read the manga. It's fantastic and understands the characters and story telling better than Kaj ever could
shit actually happens
The manga did a better job as a continuation of the second OVA than the anme ever did, also it has Yume and Yume is the best Tenchi girl ever, I don't care If she's obscure.
I've read a bit of the manga, it's damn good and I agree it's what should have been the continuity after Kagato before all that potential went down the pisser. Zero Ryoko episodes were okay but rest were lame.
so they neglected a part of the characters, that's what I'd call doing a shit job
but not really, it's just an early, primitive and undeveloped job
it's excusable due to how early the meta was to them at the time
>~10 years from now, today's teenagers will look back on the 2000s and 2010s as a golden age for character design and writing
>fucking megumin will be considered a classic archetype of japanese animated females and our tsunderes will be old memes at best
being easy to shove into your pathetic fantasies isn't a necessary or beneficial part of a character
if anything it makes anime as a whole worse. waifu appeal lets secondaries care about a series for the girls alone without consuming anything resembling literature
the girls are part of the literature moron, you sound like you're saying worse girls are better for the show because somehow it's bad if the girls are likable
being prone to being fantasized doesn't make the character worse, it's a result of the character being better
you're making 0 sense and being tasteless by spouting bullshit as a poor justification
It's what sells.
I hope isekai convinces the otaku that fall for that crap to stand in front of trucks.
By your logic, granulated sugar and MSG are the pinnacle of food.
>s-she's so stubborn what a character flaw
>oh she told a lie what a character flaw
>she's a smug bitch, character flaw, just ignore this picture of her helping starving orphans and being kind and loving to the people she just taunted with horrible insults like "i da cutest desu, you da second cutest, hoi hoi hoi"
>she's in a wheelchair what a deep and flawed character
>get over yourselves already
>you have shit taste for not liking what i like
>but get over yourself
Naw, you're the one being a judgmental, elitist faggot. That other dude has nothing to get over minus you being a fucking queer.
I was joking. Rem has the personality of a side character in a VN (owing to her being a side character in an anime of an LN) and maki isn't even identifiable as life. For real. If you put Maki on a platform and asked her to do something most people would conflate her with some silicon-based automation and throw her in the scrap bin to be recycled into iPads.
I like Kiyone, Anon.
She's better than Ayeka IMO.
>Ryouko's design sucks
You are full of shit, no wonder you spill out shit opinions like that.
No, I didn't see this show back in 90's.
Idols in general are. Isekai is the next big thing.
Coca cola is popular but that doesn't make it the best thing ever made. Just a cheap drink. Moe is like that.
Don't bully Ranma.
moe isn't a thing it's a reaction
you're just spouting shit and looking for a boogeyman to hate about new shows because you want to stick to the notion that the older shit is better for some reason
And that makes all the difference. Internet gives the vocal fringe a platform to band together and yell and whine, drowning out the more moderate or indifferent voices. And since they don't have to interact with anybody less extreme now, the fringe subcultures grow even more absurd and incestuous.
>90's discussion without Ruri
The show was originally supposed to revolve around Tenchi and Ryoko, but some fags working on the script thought it would be better to throw in a bunch of other characters and never let Tenchi choose one. Harems are so awful for this very reason.
Because the otaku fear a strong female character
I loved Ryoko alot but the official art style was always so fucking bad
Pic related is how modern day Ryoko should look
well i was basically an adult during the 90's so I'll explain things.
First of all they were still doing a lot of hand drawing with anime back during the 90's. Anime back then was much like Disney animation in America, it was considered a national treasure and something to aspire to. The writers of anime back then had time to flesh out a female character and give her a real personality, sense of self/purpose, and creditable backstory. Anime series back then also had time to completely tell a story about a person or character instead of jam-packing everything into 12 episodes.
Also the 90's were a time where the world felt that it was racing ahead. the year 2000 was upon us and we all felt that the internet was a sign that the world was going to advance technologically at a rapid, blinding pace and that we'd be traveling the stars by 200X or 20XX.
Equality would no longer be a dream and we'd all be singing kumbiya in a short period of time. If you watch the anime of the 90's you see how much of this is reflected in the female characters and the themes of the time.
