Be honest: would most dubs be better if there was more talent in that industry? I realize that there isn't much of it other than a few select actors, and many of them rely on amateurs. Would they be better if more experienced professionals did it? Especially if they actually had knowledge of show they were doing and liked it so they would know how to perform as a certain character? I also understand that there are some anime that cannot be dubbed because they are so heavily Japanese in terms of themes and honorifics that it would pretty much ruin the show no matter how good the performances are. I also do know that a show taking place in another country can work well with a language different than said country's (which is why there's anime with non Japanese characters)

Also, I have a theory of why dubs are more popular in animation than live action films. If you dub a film with an actor you know on screen like Chris Pratt, it'll be super odd seeing a voice other than his coming out of his mouth, while with animation, it's less jarring as you don't actually see the actor or actress, just the character.

No because director choose the VA thinking on the character, so to watch the show the way the director intended to do, you have to watch it on the native language it was made.
It holds true to any other visual media too.
The only reason to actually watch a dub is if you're retarded enough to not be able to pay attention to two things at the same time.

But would they at least be okay if maybe there was more talent/involvement between original involvement?

Are all dubs bad or are there some that are okay but mostly not?
>>
>>152333728
Of course they could be less bad, but that doesn't make them good.

Anyways why bother trying to watch something that is objectively inferior?
Even subs are bad, because you can't always translate exactly what was trying to be said.
But we know that learning a language is difficult so might as well just watch them subbed.

>Even subs are bad, because you can't always translate exactly what was trying to be said.
That's because anime is shit :^)
>>
>>152334035
Even when you learn a language, you might not be able to fully understand. In the end, everything is boned.

This whole "all dubs are bad" mentality comes from an outdated perspective from the late eighties and early nineties and I'm surprised it's still hanging around, I think it's most because it's become a part of board culture.
>>
>>152335282
Sure because 4chan has been around for so long.
Trying to excuse your shit tastes and laziness doesn't make dubs good.
>>
>>152335282
The "dubs can be good" mentality comes from an influx of posters from MAL, ANN, Gaia and other places where an objectively inferior form of translation is considered viable, simply because it's more convenient for them. Not having to watch the screen, having an easier time watching the show with 2x speed and not having to read are common arguments.
Even worse translations than subs, localization for a normalfag audience, original voices replaced by random people who do not have the same opportunities to get to know their character, even worse mouth synchronization unless they are tailoring the script to the mouth movements (good luck making a good script with this condition), and a poor talent pool. Have fun.

Yes.
Imagine how good the HxH dub would be if Killua were voiced by Nancy Cartwright.
>>
>>152333092

Only retarded americans (who can't read more than 1 word per minute) and ignorant third-worlders care about dubs.

Fuck off.

The dubs are bad culture remains because there are companies shitting out dubs with more frequency than ever before but with all the horrible quality and shoe-string budgets as ever.

Even when it's not some trash flavour of the month show that funimation is putting out because it can, dubs are almost always bad. Even Ghibli films get shit dubs, and the fact is if companies were to put the effort in things just don't translate. Everything from the structure of the language to the contrived baby talk of your average moeblob conspire against it being possible to create a script that passably can be matched with movement on screen. It's hard enough make decent dub from one western language to another.

Only way for that to happen is if there was more money to be made till then we are stuck with the same rehashed voices

What other option is there?

Why is everything always a meme
